We know, we know, we can't believe Sony's working on new MiniDisc products either. We're not even sure what we think is cuter: the fact that Sony's still making them, or that they've apparently realized that ATRAC is not going to be king after all no matter how hard they try and so the new MD players now also handle MP3. No, wait, maybe it's that they're actually going to launch Mac support this summer, more than five years after it would've actually made a difference for most people.

MiniDisc units are still among the best audio options when it comes to recording interviews and sound, and we're sure the MZ-RH1 is going to be perfect for that, but for those of us who just want to listen to music the MD's time is long past.

<![CDATA[MD Hanging on for Dear Life]]> Yes, that's right, the MD format is still alive and kind of kicking. And it's not only Sony that's still making MD products. JVC seems to have come out with a new MD player, the JVC XM-C17, that features a 250 hour battery life in LP4 mode, but won't play any MP3 files. There's really not all that much to say about this product, though it is a nice red color, but I suspect that somebody out there is still buying this stuff, so good luck to you!

<![CDATA[MD of the Living Dead]]>
Despite the rumors you heard, MD is not dead yet. Sony Japan just announced two new MD Walkman (and continues its proud tradition of announcing a new digital audio product the day after Apple does). The MZ-EH70 and MZ-HE50 actually support the Hi-MD format, and feature an HD digital amplifier to reduce noise. Otherwise, these seem to be standard issue Sony MDs (no recording, and they don't appear to support MP3 playback either). These come out in November in a rainbow of pastels. Price TBD.

<![CDATA[Sony MD May Go Bye-Bye]]> Oh, Sony, how could you? After years of loyal MiniDisc fans sticking with you, you're really going to cancel the format? Looks like this may be more than just a rumour. According to the MD geeks at independent discussion board Sony Voice, the new restructuring and catching up of the Sony brand is going to kill the MD.
