In reply to Microsoft Courier's Swipes, Snips and Scribbles: The Leaked Interface
I'm not a big fan at all. I have not once liked the concept from any of the videos. Its made by Microsoft and you can tell instantly. The fact that the demo videos are mysterious and it requires this lengthy support document to explain how to use it, makes it a failure already. Such a device needs to SCREAM touch me. This device does not. I wouldn't know what to do with it, or what to use it for.

An Apple Tablet, something with a home screen or a desktop that makes sense, gives the user INSTANT ideas on what they want to do with it. As soon as the Tablet is announced, the Courier will be about as significant as the blackberry storm. #microsoftcourier

    @PMZanetti:
    Fanboy much?
This isn't to EXPLAIN how to use it, it's to SHOW how it can be used, obviously because no one has got their hands on it yet. Also how the hell does this not scream "touch me", it's almost 100% screen. You can't think of anything to do with this because you don't want to think of anything because you instantly hate it because it's MS. #microsoftcourier

@Odin: I'm with you and I'm an Apple fanboy. This looks to have more potential as an everyday tool and possible entertainment thing-a-ma-jig.
I hope that Microsoft got on their A-game and brought some of that "7" magic to the UI. #microsoftcourier

@The-Ohio-Player: Exactly. I have a lot more interest in this than the damn Apple tablet. Why? Because it's actually more than a whisper on the air. All we've seen of the Apple tablet is some rumors and some mock ups which picture it as some oversized iPod Touch. It's incredibly rich to claim that a product that's no more than a phantom is instantly going to make a significantly more real product insignificant.

For all we know the Apple tablet could be a stone slate smeared with Steve Jobs feces. Then again I bet people like PMZanetti would still buy it.

In reply to Microsoft Courier's Swipes, Snips and Scribbles: The Leaked Interface
    I've been wondering:

Are the people working on Courier the same people who designed the Zune HD? Because they both have a similar "wow" factor in their hardware, and both use 3D effects (in different but similar ways).

Either way, it does really look like a good product. All we need is a price.

@Mike Zuniga: That was Unexpected: We need alot more than just a price... how about real, working, non-rendered hardware & software? Until then, this is nothing more than pretty vaporware.

If hardware DOES exist, I'm sure Gizmodo and Microsoft are working out the leak schedule just in time for the Apple Tablet announcement. #microsoftcourier

@Tom90deg: Well, I see no reason it shouldn't be. The Zune software for the PC is elegant and since this device is touch/stylus-based I see no reason why some of the cooler stuff from the Zune HD couldn't make it onto this. #microsoftcourier

Wait, wait, wait. Let me see if I've got this straight. Microsoft is releasing a touch-y tablet-y thing, and I am genuinely excited about it because of how innovative and exciting the product is, not to mention how slick the interface looks.

And, as near as any rumors can give us, the Apple Tablet is an over-hyped piece of junk with a following based on past experiences rather than current success....

Did somebody screw with the time space continuum recently? This is absolutely backwards. #microsoftcourier

@OCEntertainment: I couldn't have said it any better. This looks very, very good. And I really don't care who it's from. I prefer to attribute excellence to a single product based on its merits, rather than the manufacturer or branding. Microsoft and Apple have had many failures, but also many successes in different areas. Are the tallies balanced? I do not know, nor do I care. But, I do know that to simply assign "win" or "fail" to any product, especially when just a rumor, based solely upon the imprimatur is arrogant and ignorant. For that reason, I find it difficult to accept the supposed awesomeness of the alleged Apple tablet, simply because it's from Apple. #microsoftcourier

there is basically nothing about viewing content, like watching movies, reading books, or listening to music

I don't think there will be, either.

It shares information between users, and like all devices that share information, it would be a nightmare of DRM and legal / copyright hassle to allow one to do so.

Unless Microsoft are going to challenge the legal system, I don't see these being features.

Does no one else think it was funny that there was a brief screen shot of an apple.com front page that said "small talk." Almost as if they are poking fun at the new Apple tablet. I LOLed and my wife rolled her eyes.

As someone who's slavishly bound to my hardcover notebooks, I'm way liking this. Pen computing has never been done very well, and if they can do what they're showing here, and the battery life can get me through a workday full of meetings, I'd be delighted with this. That said, if this is a sign that pen-based computing (with gesture assist) is going to be a competition area between Apple and M$, then I'd like to be able to compare and contrast the offerings before buying, but I would buy something like what I'm seeing here.
