    For that price I can buy two, mod them to destruction and still go get a new one anyway!

    Petite PCs.
    OK, so yeah, they may be lame to Gizmodians who are used to the best/newest/fastest, etc, but everyone starts somewhere and if this has any functionality at all, I can see it introducing computing to people who would otherwise never be exposed or being used by students. I dont want to buy my kid a $2K laptop, but I am more than willing to risk $100.

    Just a little research reveals:

    "Instead, the Longsoon chips use an instruction set based on MIPS, which is not able to run the full version of Microsoft Corp.'s Windows operating system and other software commonly used on PCs."

    Also, they claim performance roughly equivalent to a P-III or P-IV


    So, expect a very trimmed down linux or some such.

    I'll believe the $100.00 notebook when I see it. But if it's for real it's a real breakthrough. It means a whole new class of folks will be able to afford one, even if it's a kind of lame one. But if it will run Firefox and has decent WiFi it could prove to be a useful educational tool. Pair this with municipal WiFi in "economically disadvantaged" areas and it could provide a real lift to a whole generation of "at-risk" kids.
