There's an egg-headed C-3PO, Wicket, Imperial Guard and my favorite, Emperor Palpatine, who's channeling Dark Side force zaps at all times, keeping your data safe. Like the last batch they can play Star Wars sounds when you mount and unmount, if you want to go there. [mimobots via Underwire]

<![CDATA[ Mimobot Designer Flash Drives Grow to 8GB ]]> mimo8gb.jpgIf lack of storage was the major reason you were holding off on dropping the coin for a mimobot designer flash drive (which I have a soft spot for even though the price/value ratio is slightly outside of this reality), get ready to open up your tri-fold wallet, they've just started offering 8GB drives. They're $140, about double what you'd pay for a Cruzer Contour, which has its own design premium. But they are really cute. [Mimoco]

<![CDATA[ Cooking Hell Kitties and Pirates: Tokidoki Mimobot Artist Series ]]> The latest batch of mimobot designer flash drives for Spring continue their artist series, this time fronting Italian artist Simone Legno's Tokidoki brand. There's just three in the set, but they're all pretty awesome: Pirate Nero, obviously a frickin' pirate; Pastaio, who looks like demon kitty chef; and Meletta, which has a monkey on it. They're 1, 2 and 4GB and are fast enough for ReadyBoost. As always, you're not paying for the guts ($40, $60, $100) but the candy coating, which we still think is pretty sweet. [Mimoco]

<![CDATA[ Star Wars Series 2 Mimobot Flash Drives Ship Tomorrow ]]> The Star Wars Series 2 mimobots—Luke, Leia, Han and Boba Fett—that were due last month are finally shipping tomorrow, three months after going up for pre-order. They've got a brand new feature that I'm not sure if I love or hate: When you plug in or eject the drive, it plays sounds from Star Wars, in case your coworkers didn't already know you were a virgin. In any case, these dudes will drop come January, but you can put your order in for them now. They'll set you back $50 for a 1GB drive, $70 for 2GB, and $110 for 4GB.

<![CDATA[ Domo-Kun Mimobots USB Drives ]]> Speaking as a guy who actually owns a Domo-kun shirt, these Domokun mimobots are pretty much the best drives ever. Mimobots are flash drives shaped like random characters you know, but this one's of our favorite Japanese stop-motion monster who also enjoys killing kittens. You know the one. [Joshspear]

<![CDATA[ New mimobots Bring Some Friends of the Happy Tree Variety ]]> I know that underneath their tarted-up plastic shells, they're just regular USB drives, but I dig the whole mimobot concept anyway because I have a soft spot for overpriced art toys. While the guts haven't changed since the last update (1, 2, or 4GB sizes, for $50, $70 and $110, respectively), mimoco just dropped 15 new designs. The kickers are probably the Happy Tree Friends series, which is loaded up with animations, screensavers and other presumably bloody HTF content, so they're undoubtedly great presents for small children. <![CDATA[ Paws On the Artist Series '07 mimobots at NY Comic Con ]]> mimostand.jpgThe NY Comic Con was disappointingly less gadget-y (or worthwhile) than I had hoped, which is to say that it was gadget-less until I spotted the Mimoco banner way against the back wall. And what can I say, I'm a whore for art toys—Kid Robot has gotten far too much money from me over the last couple of years.

After talking to the mimoco crew (half of the six-person company was there), I got my hands on one of the Artist Series '07 mimobots, Mori Chack's Gloomy Bear (Grey Heavy Blood), that we showed you a bit ago.

mimohand.jpgAs you can see, it's actually fairly small—I was kind of surprised at first because the promo pics make them look huge. My only real gripe about the design is that when it's plugged in, the cool side—the whole reason to buy the drive—actually faces downward, leaving me with the Gloomy Bear's ass and its flashing blue light protruding from my notebook.

The drive comes with store of goodies packed on it, namely a set of Gloomy Bear icons, backgrounds and avatars of both pink and grey persuasions. The kicker though is a totally weird trailer of sorts with a bizarre soundtrack where a Gloomy Bear bloodily mauls a kid Killer Instinct-combo style for over a minute.

While it is more functional than the average art toy, at $100 for the 2GB model, you are paying more for the form than you are for the function—there are certainly cheaper offerings sporting the same amount of space, even if you go high end. Obviously, though, form is entirely the point, and if you want an art toy that does more than just sit on a shelf, this is definitely one of the better ways to go.

Bonus geekage: Stars Wars mimobots in the flesh, which, Bothan spies tell us with any luck will be dropping in two weeks after suffering numerous setbacks from the Imperials. I just wish they had a little speaker so the Chewie drive could go "Gwahrarrrrr" whenever it was accessing data.

<![CDATA[ Cheer Up Gloomy Bear, New mimobots Are Coming ]]> Mimoco is launching part I of its Artists Series '07 collection of mass culture art objects-cum-USB flash drive mimobots. The new series, like previous ones, is comprised of limited edition collectibles with designs from Hanazuki, Sket One, and Mori Chack (of Gloomy Bear fame), respectively.

Besides looking damn skippy, they're available in capacities from 512MB ($50) to 4 GB ($150) and are hi-speed USB 2.0, making them the most attractive way out there to give your new Vista comp some ReadyBoost action while making your friends jealous.

<![CDATA[ Limited Edition Star Wars USB Flashdrives ]]> DarthVader_6.jpgAn Imperial spy informs us that Mimoco's going to drop a Darth Vadar USB flash drive tomorrow. A limited run of 3500, too, so you'd better queue up now if you want one. They're officially sanctioned by his royal Lucas-ness, and will go for $80 bucks for a 1GB version, all the way to $170 bucks for a 4GB version. That's a whole lotta space bucks for 4GB isn't it?

You know what would be cool? If this Darth Vadar USB drive's cap didn't have little bear ears, and if the helmet was in the shape of the dark lord's helmet. And if the USB plug looked like James Earl Jones. For the record, I'd consider rocking a Han Solo model, for sure.

<![CDATA[ Mimoco USB Keys: Now White Trashier ]]> - GizmodoDesigned by Lili Chin, this improved line of Mimobots hearkens back to the days of greasers, socs, and pompadours. Their names are Ramona, Link and Betty-Lou. Even better, they now have little hoodies to keep them warm and they contain content by Brian McCarty and Phofo. What does that mean to you? It means that if you collect USB keys, it's time to open the piggy bank. Come on. It's art!

<![CDATA[ Mimobots goSeries ]]>
The previous set of Cosmos Mimobots were cute enough to kill kittens and puppies. That's why the goSeries, along with having the ability to make sad clowns happy again, has its own backstory:

we are peaceful and joyful creatures essentially made of electronic silicon providing us with an extraordinary ability in memory. we love to live excessively and to embrace all pleasures that bl h, friendship, and our electronic components can offer.

As usual, these were designed by a serial killer—the famous graphic designer Yahid Serial Killer Rodr guez to be exact—because only someone who aspires to be Manson could craft something so disturbingly adorable.

The goSeries comes out in December pre-loaded with mini-games from Peskimo, and is available in 256MB, 512MB, 1GB and 2GB capacities—but only in limited quantities of 250 to 500 units (the Cosmos series is nearly sold out). They are all hi-speed USB 2.0, and prices range from $69.95 to $189.95 depending on the size.

<![CDATA[ mimobots - It's a Toy! It's a USB Key! ]]> Mimobots are essentially collectable toys that double as USB keys. Given the rise of collectable action figures from the likes of Yahid Serial Killer Rodriguez and others, it's inevitable that this sort of thing is happening. Overall this seems like the perfect mix of quirky design and utility that we here at Gizmodo defecate ourselves over. Think about it: collectable USB keys. It's like making collectable spark plugs. Genius!

Future mimobots will include exclusive character-related media content such as animations, games, and tunes. Cosmos Series includes an original music mix by DJ DB, one of the premiere drum n bass artists mixing today.
