The Mini Player, if you don't remember, is a nano-like competitor with similar features, but a less usable UI. The new version is essentially the same player, except noticeably thinner and smaller, and with some slight new UI features. Take a look at the video (but turn down your volume) to see what's new. <![CDATA[iPod Touch-like Meizu M7 Miniplayer Gets Specs, Price]]> Meizu's at the copying game again, showing off some renders of their upcoming Meizu M7, along with specs and pricing information. We suppose that leaving all the UI work to Apple and co-opting it later allows them to keep prices at a low $100, $110, and $150 for the 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB models respectively. As for the size, it's got a 2.8-inch display with 480x228 resolution and measures 3.5 x 1.9 x 0.3 inches externally. If Meizu can really pull out an iPod touch-like player for $150 with the same UI, they've got a winner on their hands. [Meizu via Meizublog via Uber Gizmo]

<![CDATA[Dealzmodo: 4GB Meizu Miniplayer $99]]> Who'd have thought that the cheapest place you can find a 4GB Meizu Miniplayer was Walgreens. Who knew Walgreens even sold electronics? That's just weird.

And if you're curious about the Miniplayer, check out the review. It's actually very good.

<![CDATA[Meizu Miniplayer SP: Cheaper But Still Great]]> The Meizu Miniplayer review we looked at yesterday is getting an "SP" edition. We think the SP stands for "So Poorpeoplecanbuyit", because all the features are the same, yet it's nearly $30 cheaper than the price of the standard edition.

The SP should still play back WMV/MP3/OGG/WAV/XviD files, still have the great screen, and still have the same scroll panel. We expect it will still not work with the Apple iTunes or PlaysForSure stores, but when's the last time a company took down the price AND added new features?

This price drop is only available in China for now, but if it reaches the US, $164 for a 4GB video-capable player is pretty darn great.

Meizu M6 SP = the same thing, only cheaper [dapreview via Crunchgear]

<![CDATA[Meizu Miniplayer Reviewed (Verdict: Your iPod Nano is a Turd)]]> The Meizu Miniplayer is like the Obi-Won Kenobi of MP3 players—the only hope to go up against the Empire-like iPod. Now that the Nano has gone a Darth Vader-ish black, the white of the Meizu Miniplayer reminds us that good functionality and great design will win over great design alone.

So how does this Miniplayer shine? Let us count the ways. First, it's tiny (just like the Nano). Second, it plays back WMV/MP3/OGG/WAV/XviD files. Third, it's priced the same as the Nano, but has a screen the size of a 5G iPod. Lastly, the scroll panel works as well as the Nano's scroll wheel.

So what's the downside?

Well, there's no support for either the Apple iTunes store or PlaysForSure stores like Napster. Thus, you're pretty much need to either rip the songs into MP3 format or rip your songs from your CD collection—or download them illegally. If you're looking for a gift for someone who's anti-iPod, the Meizu Miniplayer will give you zero regrets.

<![CDATA[Meizu Miniplayer Available In Black]]> The Miniplayer, Meizu's answer to the iPod Nano, is now available in an off-the-rack basic black. It still has the same Meizu stylings, same 1-4GB flash memory, and the same sexy 18FPS DivX playback. The screen's the same 320x240 and it has the same 20 hours of battery life for audio and 6 for video. Yeah, you get the point. Everything's the same except the color. Hey, it worked for Apple.

<![CDATA[Meizu Miniplayer M6 Coming to the US]]> The Meizu Miniplayer we posted a review of yesterday is actually coming to the US. Dreams do come true! Maybe this iPod competitor will have more luck than Creative in knocking the king off the throne—no, we're not talking about Elvis on the pooper.

Preorder the 4GB for $219, 2GB for $159, and 1GB for $139.

<![CDATA[Meizu Miniplayer M6 Reviewed (Verdict: Definite iPod Nano Competitor)]]> The internet has been on fire with talk of the Meizu Miniplayer and how it may just knock the iPod Nano off the top spot for flash based players. DAPreview reviewed the M6 and came away all smiles.

The player is small and thin, but has an iPod-like metal backing so it won't snap in your pocket. The sound is a little bass-heavy, but nothing exceptionally worse than the players currently out by Creative, Apple, or any of the other Korean DAPs. The DivX playback is only 18 FPS, less than the frame-rate of a Hollywood movie, but good enough for watching on the go.

Picture viewing on the screen in all but the sunniest of conditions is good thanks to the bright 320x240 screen. Other features like voice recording and e-Book reading are also passable.

One of the main draws will be the $199 price for the 4GB version compared to $249 for the 4GB Nano. Is the M6 up to the task of dethroning the Nano? Yes. But will it happen? Probably not. Apple's marketing is harder to beat than Tyson in Mike Tyson's Punch-Out.

<![CDATA[Meizu Miniplayer: Slick iPod Clone]]> You gotta hand it to Meizu for taking the iPod look and grafting it onto an otherwise plain PMP. Some of the things they stole: The white/black finish, the grey control area, the metallic backing, the hold switch, and the iPod-like navigation system.

Nonetheless, this PMP comes with up to 4GB of memory, a 2.4" screen, a microphone plug for voice recording, FM support of some kind, USB support and MP3/WAV/OGG/WMA for audio, and Xvid for video. It has 20 hours of battery life for audio and 6 for video. Lots of features in a little package.

A separate case is available for $36. No word yet on pricing.
