@ilovexspin: Why all the hate? This is just like every other gadget posted here - it's something that is interesting and made by someone else. It's "DIY" because it's home made, not because you are supposed to make it yourself.

Couldn't I just take the head off of one of my defunct solar walkway lights, and get the cell and all the electronics, and wire a USB connector to it?

@Franknbeans: An odd number died on me, and they don't look good w/much of the set missing. The others have been sitting in a bucket, and still light up two years later. I was going to try to figure out if I could wire one to recharge 4 batteries to run my Scrubbin-Bubbles shower cleaner.

So I did some research on this one and it turns out that the answer is yes, but you might need to get an intermederary battery because the power from the small ones is so small. Same thing happened to me with the solar lights so I wanted to do the same thing, but no how-to for canibalists like us
