And why they really shouldn't comment on ongoing legal proceedings. [Kotaku]

And a bonus! Thanks Frucci.

<![CDATA[Nintendo DSi Boosts Screen Size, Adds Camera and Audio Player]]>

The newest iteration of the Nintendo DS, the Dsi, has come out of hiding! The company's new handheld gets a 17% bigger screen (measuring in at 3.25 inches), a .3 megapixel camera, an SD memory card slot, and “audio enhancements” like the ability to listen to mp3s, adjust pitch and playback.

The DSi will also feature built-in browsers and a DSi shop. Pricing categories at the shop for DsiWare include Free, 200 points, 500 points, and a “Premium” 800 points. New DSi owners will get 1000 points to spend at the DSi Shop before March 2010. I. Want. It. Now. Get the rest of the story from our brother-in-arms, Kotaku (and click their digg badge above)! <![CDATA[Reggie and Miyamoto: Wii Storage Solution Coming, More Betterer Than a Hard Drive]]> The storage situation on the Wii is sorta abysmal, especially if you're an avid Virtual Console or WiiWare fan and have lots of games. Don't worry, Nintendo knows it. According to a translated interview with Latin American pub Club Nintendo, Reggie and Miyamoto say that you can expect an announcement about storage goodness in the future, since they're working on a number of technologies, but it won't be a hard drive.

Nope, Reggie says it's even better than a hard drive. Could it be online storage? (That's the only thing we can think of besides a hard drive, since online storage is actually super cheap nowadays.) Whatever it is, if it involves hardware, expect it to be one of the few Wii peripherals Nintendo makes, since Miyamoto says they have enough already. Amen to that. [Go Nintendo via CVG via Kotaku]

<![CDATA[Wii Fit Doesn't Actually Make You Fit, Definitely Makes Miyamoto's Wallet Fat]]> It was always unlikely to us that the Wii Fit would be the thing to sculpt your gelatinous torso into something suitable for American Gladiators, but Nintendo's Miyamoto finally admitted it himself.

He says that the Wii Fit's purpose isn't to make you fit, but to make you aware of your body. It's the same thing you could accomplish with a bathroom scale and an Excel document, but it's much more fun when you do it as a family and get to play little minigames with it. Plus, there's yoga. Either way, we still believe the Wii Fit is worth its fairly reasonable price tag if your family's not really health conscious—which describes most readers here. [Nintendo via CVG via Kotaku]

<![CDATA[Dumb Wii Commercials Still Not a Patch On PlayStation Home]]>

So, apparently these kids were watching telly at home when some japanese Mulder-and-Scully-wannabes arrive with some white magic wand. Then the whole family gathers around the TV to laugh at grandpa while changing his hairstyle. It's like, oh grandpa, we love you, but you would be so much cooler with an afro wig, man. And then it's like, you know, like everyone is laughing at each other and they can spend hours doing cartoons of other people and stuff.

Or something like that, if you have to believe Nintendo. I have to confess that I like to create Mii characters, but the whole thing is a little bit limited if you don't have an online option, even if it's not as someone-found-the-IKEA-catalog-at-Sony-HQ-cool and sleek as Sony's PlayStation Home. I guess we must wait and see what Miyamoto is creating now.

<![CDATA[Nintendo Keynote Liveblog Imminent]]> Cuddlebear Jason Chen is at the Game Developers Conference right now, and he's gearing up to cover Miyamoto-san's keynote address and the rest of the Nintendo keynote. He'll be liveblogging the event, which is set to kick off at 1:30 EST/10:30 PST, so get yourself settled to see what kind of magical crap Nintendo decides to unleash upon us. Me, I'm hoping for old school Square RPGs (Chrono Trigger, anyone?) on the Wii's Virtual Console, but I'm not holding my breath.

The liveblog will be all in one post this time around (none of that confusing multi-post business), so warm up your refresh buttons and stay tuned.

<![CDATA[Miyamoto Says the Wii Is Basically a Gamecube]]> Although Ashcraft is in Japan, we could hear his tears drop loudly on his stained MacBook Pro all the way here across the Pacific here in California when he read Miyamoto say that the Wii is "basically a GC".

We've upgraded our development tools to new versions but, you can still use GC programs as they are. With that in mind, I thought we could remake GC titles for the Wii and modify them to work with the Wii remote so that they're more fun to play.

Since the hardware is pretty much the same, they're charging you again for the same device, just Wii-ified with the awesome controller. As much as we hate paying for the "same thing" more than once, we're still going to, since it's the Gamecube++. And because we never bought a Gamecube in the first place.
