Aeros ML866 Air Vehicle Accepted for FAA Approval, Still Three Years from First Flight

The FAA has accepted the Aeroscraft Aeros ML866 for certification, the aircraft which is neither an airship nor a dirigible or an airplane or an helicopter or a UFO, but is "classified as a fourth type of air vehicle, a buoyancy assisted air vehicle." However, don't hold your breath for a pleasant trip in this long-range, 210-feet-long, 5,000-square-feet cruise liner of the skies: the company told the Giz that the "ML866 is preliminary scheduled to begin the flight test activities in 30-36 months." They couldn't give us names of their potential customers, but at least they gave us a new picture of the bar onboard: More »

Blu-ray and HD DVD, Meet $150 HD VMD ML622S

We first told you about HD VMD over two years ago, then we told you again about one year ago. But the "next gen" HD optical disc aiming to take down...giants...Blu-ray and HD DVD is finally coming to fruition. New Medium Enterprises will launch its new ML622S HD VMD player next month, a 1080p, single-slotted HDMI 1.3, ethernet-upgradable device that is expected to cost only $150 at many wholesalers (though MSRP is $200). Hands-On and Slot Exploration with the Sexy Samsung Printers (Verdict: NeXT Flashback)

Last week we gave you the specs of Samsung's new Windows-, Linux- and Mac-compatible printers &mdash the ML-1630 is a monochrome laser printer, the SCX-4500 a 16 page-per-minute multi-function printer &mdash and yesterday we got to see them for ourselves. Glossy, smooth, they're the kind of printers that make you want to kick off your heels, sprawl on the top and start crooning "Makin' Whoopie." But first of all we wanted to know what the slot at the front of the ML-1630 was, so we beckoned over a Samsung gal... Updated after the jump

Aeroscraft ML866 Flying Yacht

Set to be launched next month, the whale-looking Aeros ML866 uses a combination of buoyancy (like a blimp) and lift (like a plane) to cruise comfortably through the air with over 5,000 square feet of interior room, it has more lounge space than some houses. It can take off vertically, without taking up runway time at crowded airports. And although this thing is designed to fit a "business center" with video conferencing, I'm actually thinking it deserves a swimming pool with adjoining hot tub, and a few of those 103-inch plasmas from Panasonic. The downside is a rated 120 knots of top speed, which means a world tour on this baby wouldn't be nearly as quick as it would be roomy. [GizMag]

Dealzmodo: Samsung ML-2510 Laser Printer, $70 AR

Pardon my Gizmodo colleague for tarnishing my treasured Dealzmodo this morning with that free ice cream deal. Here is something a little juicier for you to sink your teeth in. The Samsung ML-2510 is a pretty good laser printer with a more-than-good price tag. It will set you back $130 from Staples, but they are also tacking on a $60 mail-in-rebate, bringing the final price down to $70 after all is said and done. The printer can shoot out up to 25 B&W pages per minute. See Jason, this is a real Dealzmodo. More »

Motorola Releases Rugged Laptops, Includes Heating Mechanism?

The inclusion of a heating mechanism in Motorola's new laptops isn't that far-fetched after all. The MW810 and ML910 are rugged laptops that include the usual array of features such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and even GPS, but most interesting is the heating device integrated into the laptop. No, it isn't an instant lawsuit creator (see: laptop fires), but the device will slightly warm up the hard drive in extreme cold situations to ensure that it will spin up. More »
