@Brookespeed: What missed? I mean, the app may not do what you want, but package management, actually getting the crap in the OS, is a well developed process with lots of attention paid to it. Seriously, it's been a really really long time since apt-get (or Ubuntu's or anyone else's gui layer on top of it) bit me. Please tell.
Tried the live distro of 2.0 on my Mini 9 this afternoon. Very slick...but no WiFi support without a full hard disk install and some customization afterwards. Sorry, not ready for prime time.

@FiddlingWhileJimRomeBurns: I've been happily rocking v2 on my mini 9 for a month now. I agree. It's not ready for primetime. It still needs more lipstick and polish, but it's getting there.
Just do the full install and follow slaine's instructions. (You know you want to.)
People would be surprised at the difference in the Linux experience when you prepare for it ahead of time by thoroughly checking hardware compatability.
The reason things don't work out of the box on Linux is not because of the open source community's unwillingness or technical inability to do so. Rather, it has everything to do with licensing issues and uncooperative hardware manufacturers.
So, if you want things to work out of the box on Linux, quit buying shit from uncooperative hardware manufacturers.
@soggy_cheerio: Problem is that I need to keep some flavor of Windows (7 running now) on there too so that I can use WebEx for support calls at work. I'm not up for repartitioning, then installing Moblin, then doing Slaine. I guess I'm just lazy. I did really like what I saw of Moblin though. It's got promise.
FWIW I love Linux and I'm very familiar with HCLs. The Mini was the first time in ages I didn't custom build my system.
Thats the problem, its linux, and its designed for only specific notebooks, if you have other hardware and want to make drivers, or find drivers, good luck on intel careing to help you
For a light weight "netbook" OS, I'd actually throw my support behind Android. There is just so much more developer supporting the platform in terms of OS and applications.
Linux already does all this for netbooks, and just as good if not better. Reinventing the wheel on a GUI doesn't make it better. Honestly it didn't look that good in the video at all. Not bad, but just looked like yet-another-netbook-OS
Side effects include mild skin rashes, mussle pain, insomnia, impotence and incontinence. Moblin 2.0 requires medical recipee. It is not recomended to use Moblin 2.0 if you have hipertension, if you have just eaten and if you have a general dislike for facebook.

i don't think i'm going to stick with it though, multitasking is a bit too clumsy for my liking. i'll probably go back to a tiling WM.

Agreed, if you are ok with Google docs, Picasa in the cloud and other methods of cloud computing then you are fine.
But for people that use their computers as workhorses? I think not. Also, what type application file will it install? Will it even run a .exe or .dmg?
Look purdy specilly for a little kid with a netbook but I needs me my apps!
