That's the truth John, sometimes it hurts. It's ok, embrace it and, over time, the pain fades. or you can take the easy route and just become apathetic about everything. #xkcd
Why are you sobbing? Because you have yet to embrace the world of not-Apple! Sure, it's not as shiny, but you don't have to wear a gay turtleneck! #xkcd
I guess it should be funny, but with "there's an app for that" and (insert reference to something being arbitrarily being rejected from the app store) being a bit overused, I guess it just comes off as a bit stale. #xkcd
@Kaiser-Machead: I don't think it was arbitrary. I think an app which would give your life meaning would also duplicate the core functionality of the iphone. #xkcd
@Yuppers: The fart app is an allusion to true happiness you get when you release your own flatulence. The more time you spend with the app, the sooner you forget how to cut your own cheese. Ditch the app; stay natural. #xkcd
We all know the iphone will sell a gazillion copies everywhere it goes on sale.
If Motorola, the company that was brought from the brink of bankruptcy introduces a DECENT phone and sells exstreamly well opening weekend, I think we should take note of that. #motoroladroid
@seanpat12: I can't speak for dagamer but I think that might have been in reference to the iFans who are pointing out that 3GS sold so much more and is, therefore, the messiah in gadget form. I agree that this is a notable accomplishment not just for Moto but for Android as a platform. #motoroladroid
I checked out the upcoming fixes document but I didn't see a particular email problem.
I have a personal email account that was packaged with my hosted domain. When I check my emails I can only delete them afterwards, I can't send them to a different folder (like Archive) for later storage and reference. #verizondroidfirmwareupdates
@Bigbadbikernerd: The "No Wi-Fi Access" point was under the heading of "Verizon Wireless Applications". You can't use any of their special applications through Wi-Fi but otherwise it works. #verizondroidfirmwareupdates
@ripfire: What I'm talkin' 'bout is turning your phone into a Wifi AP that allows any other wifi device net access w/out 'tethering' or any add'l (bs) fees given to the carrier. Turns your phone into a 'dumb' internet pipe, bscly. And on my particular phone, ICS does not work right off the bat. #verizon
Tethering doesnt make much sense because no ones network can really handle it. A high price means they are waiting to improve the backend before really trying to offer it to everyone. However, I'm not expecting to see that until well into 2010 when Verizon has 4G up and running. #verizon
I really wonder how the amount they make on these fees compares to the number of customers they lose or that never join them due their reputation for nickel and diming customers to death. #verizon
@ibelli: Yep. I bet you're not alone. How many people out there decide smartphones aren't for them because they charge so much for data and then tethering? They could likely be getting more people into costlier plans with higher margins if they took that into account.
They're probably thinking of the business users when they set that price. Makes sense being that they come from the Blackberry world. If you are on the road for work a lot, it's worth $30. They need to get that smartphones are in the consumer market now. I'm sure part of the reasoning behind keeping the cost high is also that they don't want you using this to replace your home internet, loading their network, and possibly becoming ex-Verizon Internet customers. I get that. How about allowing a middle ground? How about allowing everyone with an unlimited data plan a certain number of tethering days a month or a year? I don't tether often but occasionally I'm out or on vacation and want to. I've probably used the tethering on my phone 10 times in the last year. I still want the ability to do that in a pinch but I absolutely will not pay the same amount again as I pay for their "unlimited" data.
Of course, I'm betting we'll be able to just root this phone and get around it but it's still bad business. #verizon
@ibelli: Yea honestly, the ONLY reason I don't own a smartphone right now is due to the ridiculous fees.
If they made it an UNLIMITED unlimited plan (from what I hear all those plans still have caps) I'd think about it, but still, I am a firm believer that there should be no additional cost for tethering.
Data is data. My phone receives it. Anything beyond my phone is my business. (Like a modem--you pay the fee to use the modem--how the signal is used PAST that router is MY business. It's like charging extra money to use a second PC on your home network, connceted to the internet. 100% bullshit, if you ask me) #verizon
The sad part for us Canadians is that $30 a month for 5GB is considered a really good deal, being close to the $30/6GB plan that Rogers/Fido has offered for limited periods in the past.
Or I guess we can pay the usual $25 for 500MB. Awesome.
@FigNinja: I suspect that the high price is to discourage too many people from jumping on and, like AT&T and the iPhone, bringing the network to its knees.
And why would one ever need to "root" an open-source, Linux-based phone that let's you do everything? (grin) #verizon
@mj001: That $30 gets you 6GB for on phone data + tethering. No extra fee... At least for now. Who knows what the future holds. Right now I can tether all I want though. #verizon
@met2art: Funny you should mention that you liked those ads. I actually wrote an entire blog post about the Pre - 1/2 of it was dedicated to those terrible ads.
@vinod1978: I agree the ads themselves were terrible (as was the phone)... but, weird as it sounds, I think Tamara Hope was the hottest thing since plasma blades in those ads. What can I say? I have a thing for nearly-albino-pale, monotone, dreamy-glazed-eyed chicks who talk about how a phone has changed their life, albeit in an abstract an indirect fashion.
I admit, it's a very narrow niche, as fetishes go. #droid
@aerospaceman: Ha! Close, (and absolute no objections, there) but nope. My initials are "met2" and "art" because I am an artist. You're not the first to come to that conclusion, however. #droid
Thought it was a pretty cool ad with some sexah futuristic jets, but I keep wondering... When something crashes to the ground and you have no idea what it is, you don't run towards it, you run as fast as you can the other way! Haven't movies taught us anything?? #droid
@ak: It's either gonna give you super powers, or eat your face on its way to world domination. Really, either one sounds pretty cool... I mean, don't you wanna be part of something? #droid
