    I just wanted to second that. Boy-o-boy those sure are crap. The regular Scientific Atlanta cable boxes are an absolute embarrassment to the software engineering community. (Which is what I have -- Optimum cable in NY).

    i think i will have to stick with my poor man's DVR. i can't see spending that kind of money and it not get me intoxicated.

    I just use the DVR that came with my TV service. Works alright for the few shows I have to store.

    @SJRNWT: Seriously. You build a pretty bad-ass HTPC for that with [your pick of DVR software] with no/lower monthly cost.


    Alas, finding HD tuner or capture cards that both work well and don't shit a brick over copy-protected content is another story..

    I'll give you a great reason why you should use this over TiVo:

    Support some new competition in the DVR market.


    That'll guarantee better products down the line.

    @gadam07: And that's pretty much exactly what I said in that last paragraph, when I begrudgingly turned back to the TiVo. So, yes, more contenders = better.

    Hulu you say? With this I can cancel my cable! But of course I would never do that because I'd want to use my awesome new DVR to record my favorite shows, which I of course won't bother recording because I can access them on Hulu!


    Hmm.. I guess I'll have to pass. This thing opens up a personal paradox that will likely tear the space-time continuum of my soul.
