MS Paint Gadget Fantasies are as Twisted as They are Unlikely

For this week's bonus MS Paint contest, I asked you to create fantastical fantasy gadgets using everyone's favorite rudimentary coloring program. Unsurprisingly, you guys have some pretty twisted fantasies that you want taken care of via unlikely technology. From promoting alcoholism to suggesting we turn the decomposing corpses of hippies into oil, today's Gallery of Champions really runs the gamut of subtlety and good taste. I salute you, MS Painters. 90 Visions of Future in MS Paint are Terrifying, Insane

This week's Photoshop Contest wasn't a Photoshop Contest at all — it was an MS Paint contest. And while I knew I was going to get a boatload of insanity in my inbox, I wasn't quite prepared for what I got. You guys are insane. In a good way… I guess. In any case, I whittled the entries down to my favorites, and yet again, choosing a top 3 was next to impossible. This week, there's a top 3 and an honorable mention that I singled out because I'm vain and it mentions me getting a Pulitzer. Deal with it. Hit the jump for your winners and your completely schizophrenic Gallery of MS Paint Champions. More »

Create Your Vision of the Future… Using MS Paint

This week, the Photoshop Contest is gonna be a little different. How so? Well, it's not going to be a Photoshop Contest at all. It's going to be an MS Paint Contest. Last week we saw some of the most technically-proficient entries in a contest yet, which was awesome. But let's lower the barrier to entry here. Not everyone is a Photoshop genius, but pretty much everyone can create an MS Paint masterpiece. Which is why this week, by popular demand, I want you to create your vision of the future for me using everyone's favorite rudimentary image editor. This being a unique contest does mean, however, that there are some extra caveats. Read on. More »

Zune Guy Buys iPod classic, Hell Freezes, Apocalypse Nears!

No, we are not kidding: the infamous Zune Guy, that dude who got three Zune tattoos, and then decided to get rid of them, says now that he avoided buying a Zune last time he was at Best Buy and got an iPod classic 80GB. He openly admitted it in the Zune Scene forums. More »

Rumor: Microsoft to "Upstage" Apple WWDC With Xbox 360 Blu-Ray Announcement

Microsoft's on-again, off-again relationship with an Xbox 360 Blu-Ray drive looks set to be on again this Monday. As you all know by now, Monday marks the beginning of Apple's annual WWDC, and a little bird told us something is going to be announced by Steve Jobs there during his keynote. Microsoft doesn't care; a tipster told CrunchGear it's going to "upstage" Jobs, Apple and the entire known tech-using world by announcing an Xbox 360 with Blu-Ray drive one hour before the beginning of the conference. Office for Mac 2008 Update Fixes Crashiness

Microsoft today released a patch for the new Office for Mac, fixing "issues that might cause Office 2008 applications to stop responding or quit unexpectedly." I haven't noticed any hinkiness of this nature, but I know some people have. If you are among the grouchy, then this patch is for you. [Microsoft Mactopia]

Asus MS71 Is a Wireless Mouse and a USB Thumb Drive

What do hardware engineers talk about when they're drunk? Merging two distinct gadgets into one gadget, as evidenced by this Asus MS71 mouse/storage device. It's a wireless laser mouse, but at the same time it's a USB thumb drive. The marriage of the two may sound good on paper—if you don't think about it for more than five seconds—but the actual execution gets you either something that's way too cramped to use comfortably as a mouse, or way too big to shove comfortably into a USB port. How about a Webcam/USB thumb drive next? Maybe we need to be more drunk to come up with these things. [Newlaunches]

LG KS20 Windows Mobile Phone Coming as LG MS25 The Unwired spotted the LG KS20 Windows Mobile smartphone on the FCC, noting that it's going to be called the LG MS25 when it reaches the US. Our guess is AT&T. [The Unwired via Boy Genius]

Microsoft's Rap History Continues Past Windows 386 to MS-DOS 5 I'm glad I never have to watch that Windows 386 video again, but this MS-DOS 5 promo video is just as bad. If not worse. Okay, it's probably worse. [YouTube]

Microsoft Wants You to Test Their New VoIP Service

Microsoft is hoping you ditch your landline and start using their new Internet-based calling software, Microsoft Communicator. The VoIP service (which appears to be aimed more at your office cube than it is your bedroom) will tie in with MS Office apps like Word and Outlook, so you'll be able to dial someone by clicking on their name. Like other VoIP services, MS Communicator will also let you take your number on the road, so you'll never be tied down like you would with a landline. The beta-testing is about to begin, you can check it out by hitting the link below. More »

That dot-munching whore, Ms. Pac-Man, has made her way to the iPod via the iTunes store. Her male, less whore-y, counterpart has been available for a while now, but everyone knows that Ms. Pac-Man was always the favorite. I think it is the ever-so-sexy bow on top of her head. M&Ms: Apple Logo Melts in Your Mouth

A tipster who works for the sister company of M&M Mars picked up a few bags of the chocolate candies at the company's outlet store where he works in Australia, and what did he find but Apple logos printed on some of the M&Ms inside. A fluke? Part of an upcoming promo campaign in Australia? Here's a closeup: More »

Ms. Dewey: the Search Engine That Reprimands Your Searches

Let's face it: Google is the world's go-to search engine. But if you're looking for something with a little more attitude, Ms. Dewey can give you your daily dose of abuse. She's essentially an avatar that governs the search engine of the same name commenting on every search you make. The video is sometimes a bit choppy and thumbing through the search results is a pain in the ass (they're all listed in a small window), but it's worth a quick look. More »
