    There's something that makes me look at this thing in deep disgust. Make it turn 360 degrees and toss it in a crowd of people - I mean, what the f*ck? Man, people designing these things must have something missing from their brain or are just plain sick.

    I'm pretty sure that this is a maneuvering test. The idea of the MKV is that it's sent up with a ICBM-like lifter towards incoming missiles, pops out one or more of these guys, and then they maneuver and float, rotating on multiple axis to lock on to the incoming warheads, and then launching a secondary kinetic-kill system... I'm pretty sure that the idea is not to float around at ground level and intercept such things at that low of an altitude, but this is an ideal maneuvering test.

    I could be wrong, but, that's the idea I get.

    Nobody else this thing looks fake? In an age of internet skeptics I'm really surprised. Something about the way it moves, the way the camera jiggles (in the first half of the clip, but in the second half of the clip it's only the netting that jiggles), and the way it falls and recovers in the end bit -- it all seems fakey to me. About the only thing an ATI 4870X2 couldn't handle is the smoke effects.

    They've been making videos like this since 1992 or so with the MKV's predecessor, the Kinetic Kill Vehicle.

    DAMN Lockheed is good.

    That is one sick looking defense weapon.

    It looks friggin scary because of the way it just kind of floats there...looking a little like a prehistoric dinosaur silently examining and guaging its prey before its attack.

    @MOBIUSONE: It can do the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs.

    But isn't a parsec a measure of distance?

    You shut up!!!

    @ILikeMacsWhatAboutIT:

    Considering that the Kessel run is done in an area with many black holes, it technically is possible to make the distance vary run by run. Or so they say.
