So, if I'm reading this right, music sales have contracted significantly. I can't say I'm surprised at that, but I didn't think that its effect was this pronounced.

The peak year for CD is 99. Napster took off in, what, 01? What this graph, predictably, doesn't show is values for 1) DVD/video sales and 2) game sales. The real story of the last ten years is not music sliding, it's music getting a smaller slice of the total home entertainment spend as DVD and gaming came along.

It's not as if increased time gaming and watching DVDs has replaced music listening. If anything, people are listening to music more than ever. It's just that they're not paying for it.
