The standard alarm snooze also gets an extra feature as a moody room light: you can set it so that each time you hit the snooze button you keep the frame's backlight on. The display is a 7-inch TFT LCD with 480 x 234 pixels, it plays MP3s, AVIs and MPEGs and takes SD, SDHC, MMC, Memory Stick Pro Duo, and Compact Flash memory cards. Available in April for $150. <![CDATA[Mustek DV300T Video Camera Tastes Like Candybars]]> It may not be the best compact digital video camera out there, but if looking like a cellphone were a category that anyone cared about, the DV300T would be on top of the market. The 2-inch LCD screen, the 3.1 megapixel resolution, and the lack of an optical zoom are certainly drawbacks—but you do get 64MB of memory (with SD card expansion), voice recording, MP3 and eBook functionality. Hmmm, wait. That is still pretty lame. However, when a price is released, it should be fairly cheap. That is a plus! [Mustek via OhGizmo]

<![CDATA[Mustek PF-i700 Digital Photo Frame Hooks up with Your IPod]]> Mustek just rolled out its PF-i700 digital photo frame that has an integrated iPod docking station. Since digital picture frames are so hot this holiday season, perhaps the company figured it might as well ride that wave while satisfying the iPod crowd at the same time.

Unfortunately, like lots of inexpensive digital photo frames, its 7-inch LCD panel has a 16x9 aspect ratio with a low-rez 480x234 screen. That's not going to look too good, but hey, it's cheap at $129.99, and you can watch MPEG 4, XviD and motion-JPEG movies on it.

Mustek helpfully tosses in a couple of stereo speakers with a headphone jack, but still, most digital cameras shoot in 4x3, so this 16x9 frame will usually give you black bands on either side of your pictures. Look for it in March. Bah, humbug. [Mustek]

<![CDATA[Mustek SoccerCam Is Hard Not To Kick]]> The instant I saw the Mustek SoccerCam, I wished I could press the shell closed and kick the thing across a room. While it is a perfectly functional 2-megapixel camera that costs just $40, I wished it were more, a shock-proof video camera that could record all the dizzying action in play, like the bowling-ball cam in The Big Lebowski. If I do ever get a review unit, I know I'll just end up punting the damn thing—so much for "hands on." (Jump if you want to read the press release.) [Mustek]

GOOOAAAAALLLL! Mustek SoccerCam Digital Still Camera Makes Perfect Gift For Sports Fans soccercam

IRVINE, CA, September 25, 2007 — The Mustek SoccerCam from Mustek is a full-featured digital camera built inside a protective soccerball shell that opens to reveal the camera. Its unique design makes it the ideal gift for soccer fans and athletes to show their passion towards their favorite sport.

And here's the kicker: the Mustek SoccerCam is currently available at www.mustekdirect.com for only $39.99 (U.S.).

With a 2.1 million pixel CMOS sensor, the Mustek SoccerCam is more than just a sports novelty - - it snaps high quality digital pictures with vibrant colors that are saved on standard SD and MMC storage cards. When more resolution is needed, users can select the high-resolution mode to increase the picture size to 3.5 megapixels, making it possible to enlarge photos while retaining sharpness and detail. To enhance the creative spirit, there are fun digital effects to alter photos, including black-and-white and sepia modes.

Engineered with Mustek's signature multi-functionality, the SoccerCam also operates as a digital camcorder, digital voice recorder, and webcam. In addition, there is a standard AV out to allow viewing of photos and video on a TV.

<![CDATA[Mustek TravelFoto Desktop Digital Photo Display/Alarm Clock]]> If you're out on the road and you forget what your honey looks like, this Mustek TravelFoto Desktop Digital Photo Display/Alarm Clock will pictorially remind you, and wake you up the next morning, too. However, its 128x128 pixel display is not going to be much for perusing your favorite porn, and given its 1.5-inch size, you might need a magnifying glass to truly enjoy it. That said, the company says you can fit 70 photos in its flash memory, while not specifying its exact capacity.

So is this going to be like that old joke where the woman complains about the shitty food at a restaurant, and then adds that the portions are too small? Perhaps so. But the small number of photos this unit can accommodate might be a good thing, since you must feed them into it via poky USB 1.1. On the upside, you'll know how long that transfer is taking by glancing at the time of day displayed on its LCD, and it even helpfully tells you the indoor temperature. It's all yours for $39.99, shipping next month. [Mustek]

<![CDATA[Mustek PF-A1020BC Frame Comes With Changeable Faceplates]]> If all digital photo frames are starting to look alike, try this Mustek PF-A1020BC with its big 10-inch LCD and swappable frames, coming with silver, "frosted white," or Mahogany faceplates. Pictures should look pretty nice as the 9.5-inch viewable area displays at a 720 x 480 resolution, and you can store around 45 JPEGs thanks to the frame's internal memory. But are the pretty colors going to be able to justify the frame's $200 price tag?

It's not as radical as some of Mustek's previous offerings, though it doesn't do less than the competition: MP3s, slideshows, and direct transfer from a USB drive or memory card are all supported. If you're still in the market for a digital photo frame, the PF-A1020BC is certainly one to look at. Keep an eye out for them this summer.

<![CDATA[Mustek PF-T150 Digital Photo Frame is All That ... and An Awesome Touchscreen]]> This photo frame from Mustek has a big, bad, glorious 15-inch touchscreen. Awesome, right? Put your pants back on because it gets better—this picture frame has a 1280 x 1024 resolution, two 3W speakers, wireless remote, 512MB of internal memory, USB, rechargeable batteries and some very feature-filled software. The software can schedule playback times, includes a digital clock with alarm and more. Downside? A $600 price tag is one hell of a downside. This frame, along with the other couple frames in Mustek's Ality series will ship in the coming months.

<![CDATA[Mustek SI302A Webcam Looks Good, Works Good]]> The ugly days of round-ball-on-top-of-pivoting-tripod webcam days are over, according to Mustek. They have created the SI302A webcam. The 1.3-megapixel camera, and integrated mic only compliments the stainless steel and black finish that could be the cherry on top of your ice cream Sunday of a personal computer. This webcam should be giving Logi-ugly-tec a run for its money come March.

The 700TZ features a 7MP CCD...but only records video at 640x480. 3X optical zoom, MPEG4 compression, SD support up to 2GB, and an extremely lightweight/fold-up design makes this a fantastic camera for easily grabbing images that you don't care too much about.

<![CDATA[Mustek Takes on Vizio with Budget 1080p LCD]]> It appears Mustek wants a piece of that budget 1080p market that Vizio is going after. Hot on the heels of Vizio's new HDTVs is Mustek's LTV-4210, a 42-inch LCD with a 1080p resolution. The 42-inch set will be accompanied by two smaller 32- and 27-inch 720p displays. There's no doubt these models will be priced as low as possible, but the question is—will they be worth it? I'm bound to say you're better off with the Vizio, especially since these new sets will be Mustek's first line of TVs. Any readers have good/bad experiences with Mustek products in the past?

<![CDATA[Two For the Road: Mustek PD77 Two-Screen DVD Player]]> Mustek decided that if one screen on a DVD player is good, then two screens must be twice as good. The result is the PD77, calling a truce between those combative backseat passengers by offering them each a screen, and giving you a fighting chance at getting them to stfu.

The screens are 7-inch 480x234 LCDs with tiny speakers and a stereo headphone jack, and the playback unit pumps video from DVDs into both. The system can also handle CD and MP3 audio, and other video files such as DivX, XviD and AVI.

That 480x234 screen has barely enough resolution to suit me, but I suppose it's enough for standard-definition DVDs. Good luck hiding those cables connecting the two screens, though.

<![CDATA[Mustek DV536 Low-End Camcorder/Still Cam]]> We may call this low-end, but only because of the bargain basement $199 price. The Mustek DV536 will take 5 megapixel stills (on par with more expensive models) and 640x480 video at 30FPS with MPEG4 compression. These are all saved onto the SD/MMC card—18 minutes with a 32MB card and up to 140 minutes on a 512MB card, depending on quality.

The camcorder has a 2.4-inch screen, plays MP3s, acts as a voice recorder, and records via analog input. It can also catch those damn kids on your lawn, but only if you're over 60.

<![CDATA[Mustek P100D Portable TV]]> Never miss an episode of Things People Will Do For Money again with the Mustek P100D portable TV. This German-engineered TV comes with a DVB-T tuner, letting users in countries with such broadcasts tune in on-the-go. What's most impressive is the TV 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, making the PT100D ideal for sports events.

Perhaps you're at the stadium but have crummy seats. Just whip this out and watch the telecast on the 7" active matrix LCD. There's a car adapter included in the package, too, so you can quiet your noisy kids whilst on the road.

The PT100D has a few other things going for it, including the fact that the built-in speakers are actually stereo, a welcome move from the usual cost-cutting mono often seen in portable TVs. You can find it online for around $185.

<![CDATA[Mustek Portable DVD Players]]> Any guess as to who will make the first portable Blu-Ray DVD player? I'll bet you anything that it won't be Mustek. But if you are in the market for a regular old portable DVD player, this company has a decent offering. The flagship MP100 supports Divx, has a 10-inch swivel widescreen LCD, and plays DVDs, CD/R/RW, MPEG-4, MP3's, digital photos and MMC/SD memory cards. Not bad for only $300. The two other players are a little cheaper. The MP70C ($135) and MP72 ($129) both have 7-inch LCD screens and can playback DVDs, MPEG4 files, music CD/R/RW, and photos.

Oh, the things we will see at CES. Did I mention that Gizmodo will be covering the show like a geeky guerrilla army?

This thing holds 60 freaking gigs of stuff and can do pretty much everything (including washing the dog). It can record and play movies, TV shows, and any other video files, play music files, display photos, be an alarm clock, sync with your calendar and even record and play audio recordings. The music files supports MP3 and WAV while the video playback supports MPEG-2, MPEG-4, WMV, DivX, XviD, and M-jpeg. This little dandy can even capture video directly from a TV, VCR, or DVD player without the need of a PC. The PVR-H160 should be available later this month for $499.
