The Mvix MV-2500U: An Ultra Portable, HDD-Based High-Def Media Center

Mvix has announced their new, mini MV-2500U media player, which supports a 2.5-inch hard drive but can still cram in most of the features of its big brothers (the MX-780HD and MX-760) in a package about the size of a PDA. It can also support drives as big as 250GB, which should be enough to store about 100 DVD-quality movie titles. Other features include: 480p, 720p, 1080i compatibility and support for MPEG-1, MPEG-2, and MPEG-4, DVD (VOB, IFO), DivX (3/4/5/6), Xvid, BivX, VCD (DAT) formats. MVIX Wireless HDD Enclosure

MVIX announced a wireless enclosure for a hard drive that will work as a video server using WiFi 802.11g. Under ideal conditions that might be barely fast enough to wirelessly stream HD across your network, where the company says it can handle MPEG 1, 2 and 4, DivX, XviD and WM9 at resolutions up to 1080i. We're hearing this MVIX unit is on its way to the US market in July or August for an as-yet undetermined price. More »

Mvix MultiMedia Player

While this thing isn't particularly ground-breaking, its always great to see mini-PCs and hard drive enclosures come together in a way that is both ingenious and useful. The Mvix Multimedia Player plays video, audio, and images from a 3.5" disk—not included (!!)—and can transmit the audio via an FM transmitter. Hmm, you're saying, couldn't I put that in my car and watch porn in the hooptie? Sure you can, and plenty of people will. More »
