Nokia's N-Gage Cellphone Gaming Platform Is Up and Running

The official announcement won't be until next Monday, but the N-Gage blog just let everyone know that their cellphone gaming platform went live today. If you've got an N81, N81 8GB, N82, N95 or N95 8GB, you can go download and install the service now (available on both Mac and PC). Nokia N82 Smartphone Reviewed In Depth (Verdict: High-end Hotness)

Nokia's N82, which is essentially their high end N95 in a candybar body may cost $550, but WirelessInfo found that the slightly high price tag gets you what you paid for. Here's a summary of WiInf had to say.

The camera's not as good as the N95's, but it's still great. Audio quality is good, keypad is "fiddly", messaging isn't as good as a BB or a Windows Mobile phone, solid battery life, no US 3G (yet), and good GPS/FM functionality. In the end, it's up to you whether you can justify a $550 price tag for a non-touchscreen phone without support for 3G in the US. [Wireless Info]

8GB Nokia N95 Coming to North America?

The Nokia Guide recently found on Nokia's online Nseries US Portal, an inadvertent mention of a 8GB N95 NAM (North American Model). Also listed was an 8GB N82, but it was subsequently taken off the list, while this new N95 mention was left on. Could we be seeing a refresh to the Nokia line sometime soon?

If a North American 8GB N95 is in the works, one would assume it would offer 3G wireless over US bands like its 4GB counterpart. But if Nokia really wanted to excite me, they would offer an N95 with a touchscreen and a QWERTY/SureType keyboard. [The Nokia Guide via Boy Genius Report]

As far as features are concerned, users can still expect to see a 5-megapixel camera with a Carl Zeiss Lens and auto-focus, 3G, 30FPS VGA video capture, secondary video camera, 2.4-inch screen, GPS, FM radio, TV-Out, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 2.0. Nokia just dropped a little teaser site, and the only clue they are giving is a small N Series emblem on the webpage. We could not possibly guess what this could all mean, but as you put your trust in us, we shall throw our thoughts in the conjecture pool: perhaps an N82, monsieur? We have been waiting weeks for the smartphone with a 5MP camera; is it finally heading our way? We shall not have to wait long to find out. The Nokia N82 got specced way back in May when it was announced with the N81, but we haven't seen pictures of it in the wild until now. The specs are still the same: 5-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss Lens and auto-focus, 3G, 30FPS VGA video capture, secondary video camera, 2.4-inch screen, GPS, FM radio, TV-Out, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 2.0. Rumor: Nokia N81 and N82 Get Specs, Launch Dates

Symbian Guru has the lead on previously unheard of Nokia phones, the N81 and N82, which will both supposedly launch during Q4 2007, and have some pretty fantastic specs. First, the sliding N81 will have 8GB of flash memory, N-Gage gaming, a 2-megapixel camera, quad-band EDGE and HSDPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, and will run the Series 60 3rd Edition.

The N82, on the other hand, is a candybar phone with quad-band GSM, HSDPA, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, Wi-Fi, GPS, TV-out, FM radio, microSD, front VGA camera, 5-megapixel back camera with Carl Zeiss lens and auto focus, and will also be running Series 60 3rd edition. Seeing as the specs on both these phones are so high, we wouldn't expect it to go for anything less than what you're seeing for the other high-end N phones. – Jason Chen
