Luckily its not related to the hardware architecture so I'm sure next quarters patch updates will include programing to improve on processor efficiency. #netbooks
I get the same battery life as I did in XP on my Macbook Pro. I can get a little over 2 hours max with wifi off, screen almost off, and doing basic tasks. #netbooks
That whole HDMI output but no 1080p video really confuses the crap out of me. It's like Nokia doesn't actually understand what HDMI is. #nokiabooklet3g
@Wilson Rothman: To be honest 99% of the population doesnt know what HDMI is. Whoever is marketing them is a genius though because everyone i run into thinks you cant play 1080p without an hdmi.
I think too often netbook reviews dont get what netbooks are. small cheap and access the series of tubes. I think the idea here is if you are getting a 3g package from sprint you might as well get some extra benefits when you sign the contract. #nokiabooklet3g
@Wilson Rothman: I think they were going for the primary benefit of HDMI. It's audio and video on one cable firstly; ability to handle 1080p secondly. #nokiabooklet3g
It's really a shame, considering how nice this thing looks. If I was going to pay $600 for a netbook, I'd rather get a Lenovo S12 with the NVidia ION, 2GB of RAM and 250GB HDD. #nokiabooklet3g
I'm part of the litl team and invite everyone to learn more about what we've created, why it might be right for many (not all) people, and why the price is more than fair.
As we said last week, the litl webbook and OS offer a completely new and simple way for everyone in the family to enjoy photos and all the web has to offer.
If you find more and more of your life online (photos, email, social networking, music, casual gaming, etc.), the litl could be right for you: simple, enjoyable, and fun. We're a stark contrast with traditional PCs that are complex, hard to maintain, and designed primarily for work.
So, if you're ready for a glimpse of where we think personal computing at home is headed, meet us and learn more at litl.com.
Best,
James
ps - We addressed our price point in a well-received blog post last week -
"So, take your run of the mill netbook, add whatever expense/time you spend doing virus, updating, upgrades, patches, plug-ins, synching, back-up, tech support, and file transfers for the life of the machine. Add in a one year service plan then add some more because we give you an unconditional money back guarantee not an extended warranty. Add in a killer screen. Then add in the stuff I haven’t talked about such as plug-and-play HDMI, awesome channels, and sweet UI. What’s that worth? Depends on your situation. But for most home computer needs, $350 netbooks are probably too cheap and $1000 laptops are more than you need. litl, at $699, is just right."
$700 for a first laptop for kids, huh? for that it had better be made of titanium with a shatterproof screen. After all, it had better be ready to double as a snow surfboard come winter.
And hey, my 18-month old does just fine on my $600 Toshiba, and all its keys still work. Almost. #litlwebookhandsonvideo
Hey Gizmodo, when you guys finally get a chance to review this thing, could you see how well it handles remote desktop? I'd love to run a beefy windows server and have this thing remote desktop to run the more beefy software (games and stuff) on my big screen. #eeekeyboard2010
I said this before, and I'll say it again: whose bright idea was it to put the POWER key right next to the delete key?! That's just frustration waiting to happen.... #eeekeyboard2010
Any idea if this thing has HDMI-CEC? Capacitive Touch Screen + Consumer Electronic Control + Wireless HDMI = most awesome tv-remote ever. #eeekeyboard2010
I am sure that Apple actually likes the Hackintosh minis - I mean, who does it? Fanboys, enthusiasts and those too broke to buy a real Mac. Well the first two groups probably already own real Macs, and the third will buy real Macs when they grow up and get a job. #netbooks
@Canoehead: You're forgetting a subdivision of the third group: Those who have enough money and like the OS but just don't feel like paying $2000 for <$900 worth of hardware. #netbooks
@MarcusMaximus: Sure, but a netbook, even with OSX, is still a pretty limited thing - if you own one, you probably own a desktop too, and likely it's a Mac, since you're in that ecosystem. #netbooks
@Canoehead: I think the real statement should be: "I think Apple actually likes Hackintosh Mini's when they're not created by using a torrented disc. ;) #netbooks
The biggest question here is why did OS X have support for atom processors in the first place when Apple doesn't make a computer with one in it. #netbooks
@Mark 2000: Any OS that supports x86 theoretically supports Atom. It is just because the N270 is tied with the 945G chipset that OS X 'supports' it. #netbooks
I don't believe Apple would resort to crippling support for the Atom for a couple of possible reasons:
-They have a close relationship with Intel. While Apple is notorious for playing roughly with others, I don't believe that they would want to be at odds with Intel over something like the Atom, or even general artificial discrimination of their OS towards a number of their products.
-They might actually use an improved version of the Atom one day. Though most speculate that Apple will never bother, it sounds like a pretty unreasonable bridge to burn.

actually, since nokia makes it, it's a 'nooklet', which is not to be confused with a cranny, though both are of similar dimensions. #nokiabooklet3g
