From what I recall, Netflix is only serving up 2-channel stereo.

I have yet to subscribe to Netflix, but this is the only thing holding me back. I would be using it with my 360.

Anybody know if it's true?

@doctorSpoc: you can still pretend you have surround sound if you choose to do so. It just doesn't sound that good. you think you have the bandwidth to support digital surround sound streaming? The fail goes to you Dr. Spoc :P

@armendni: This is one of the many reasons why I don't think you'll see the death of physical media (like DVDs and Blu-ray) by the hands of streaming content any time soon. Despite the incredible convenience that downloading media to some sort of set-top-box provides, there are so many barriers that keep it from becoming the ideal and preferred method. You're always making some sort of compromise that I just don't believe most consumers are willing to make. And yes, when you use a physical disk you make certain compromises over streaming, but they're compromises that people have been making for years and years.

So, am I the only really getting urked that Netflix keeps adding support for hardware (awesome!), but has yet to do ANYTHING for us PS3 owners? There were those rumors and petitions for the disc, but alas..we get nothing?!! what gives? Is it really the obvious answer of some guy from microsoft sitting on their board?? (or was it vice versa?)..anyways...it sucks!!!

i'm 50/50 on this, after using both of them. what i am happy about is that it seems like Netflix upgraded their servers as they launched the Tivo update, because now I can get full quality on a standard 1.5mbps cable connection.

I am also having the same phenomena with one notch down on SD but full quality on HD.

I prefer the Tivo for a couple reasons. One, my Xbox is noisy as hell. Two, the Tivo quality indicator is like 10 bars deep whereas the Xbox is a 4-bar guesstimate. Just a nice little touch...it's not really important, but I'm always curious to know.

Why is your 360 so noisy if it's not running dvd's? I know the 360 can be noisy (mine certainly is), but not when it's streaming.

no offense but i dont know what you are doing wrong on the 360.... i CAN fast forward on almost every movie. Only 1 so far that I havent been able to fast forward/rewind in.

@Jason Chen: I've been able to FF/RW Logan's Run, The Thing, and A Clockwork Orange. I've only watched a few other movies on it, and don't think I've tried FF/RW them.

@Rabid Penguin: Also, I believe you'll speed up the FF the longer you hold the right trigger down (and slow it down the longer you hold RW) - Reverse for rewind.

So make sure you're not holding down the trigger button. Just tap it and wait for it to do it's thing.

@Rabid Penguin: Thanks dudes. Just amended the post with updated information. You CAN FF/RW through stuff, just not HD stuff. I wasn't able to FF through The Thing (gave me an action not available error), even though you said you could. Strange!

@Jason Chen: Maybe not The Thing then ;c) That's just one of the few movies (and the only HD movie) I watched, and couldn't remember whether I tried to RW/FF it. But I know for a fact I did on Logan's Run and A Clockwork Orange because my XBOX kept locking up during the movie... eventually giving me the RRoD :c( The Thing was the first Netflix movie I watched though, maybe it infected my XBOX.

@Rabid Penguin: Oh. Also keep in mind that there are some movies that WILL NOT play on the XBOX, but probably will play on your Tivo.
