I don't get it, what's the point of a nettop?
You can buy a duel core desktop for about $400-$500, with a screen.
I guess they're good for use as a HTPC, but besides that, I don't know what else they could be used for.
@Colonel Jack O'Neill: Places where having a high powered PC on the desktop is not important. At my job we have PC's like these all over the warehouse, they cost little, take up little power and deskspace, and are easy to maintain.
Also people who just use the web, watch shit on youtube and organize pictures of the grandkids, I know a couple exactly like that, they still used WebTV till I set them up with a really cheap PC, now they are on Facebook and Youtube.
I have a nettop. I didn't need a desktop with a large footprint or a lot of power just to do a little word processing and printing. That's what I use it for (though I do have plans to use it as a HTPC in the future). I already have a more powerful laptop that covers my daily needs and allows me to travel, but I found it necessary to have some kind of desktop.
@iatacs19: Yes, absolutly. Many NAS's out there have sported less-than-gigahertz speeds, so it won't be an issue, so long as the underlying OS isn't a resource hog.
edit: That last sentence should be read as "...so long as you install XP, Win7, or Linux." ;)

I don't know about this touch screen business on desktops...
I mean, if someone put their grubby fingers on my screen at work, I'd probably freak out. Now we're supposed to do it all the time? I works well on something hand held (easy to wipe off), but I think it would just end up a smeary mess.
@Bigbadbikernerd: The market is, unfortunately, easily swayed by such gimmicks. Of course, once they all get sore wrists from holding their arms out in front of them all day, they'll get over the whole touchscreen idea.
@Bigbadbikernerd: I just see it as a gradual acceptance to keyboardless tablets. It's more so of a proof of concept and while what is said about gimmicks is completely true tech developed for these all in ones can easily trickle down to tablets and help that market really kick off.
@Maori_Yelir: I couldn't live without a keyboard. People would have to learn how to type again. Considering how most people type by feeling the keys (or by two fingers and intensely staring at the keyboard if you're over 65), we would all have the great joy of learning how to type by guesswork.
Also, how would blind people type?
@The Donut Pirate: "Also, how do blind people type?"
That's like asking how many completely blind people have an iPhone. Of course blind people aren't going to type on it. I'm not talking full replacement for notebooks or desktops, I mean more products like the Crunchpad. Multitouch has already taken off with phones, the new step is small internet devices that will serve the same real purpose as a netbook (Like the Apple tablet there is a vague article about every other day).
@ripfire: You mean to say...We don't have to sacrifice features for those who wouldn't use them? You mean... We have CHOICES?!?!
It's like people saying it was stupid for people to complain about the lack of MMS on an iphone simply because they wouldn't use it.

I'm disappointed that MSI went with a tray-loading optical drive in this unit. A slot-loading design would be much more appropriate.

Or, I guess you could just not touch it. My point was that it is useful technology, just not on a desktop...
