Eating and drinking is another. Playing that I cook food that I can't eat is not. Fortunately, this Personal Cooking Trainer Nintendo DS bundle is about the first two.

The package includes a lime green—which is my favorite—, a nice case, and the game Personal Trainer: Cooking. I won't be using any of them, but it's a good way to get people into cooking that otherwise won't touch a pan with a ten-foot long spork. Yes, that's most of you. [Geeksugar]

<![CDATA[Modded DS Light (With a 'G') Shames All Others on the Disco Floor]]> A Japanese DIY aficionado stripped open his DS and added about 200 pieces of LED flair. The Nico Douga commenter who, amidst the sea of wwwwwwwww, suggested pairing this with the Korg DS-10 (which is now available, by the way)—I'm feeling you on that. The action starts, appropriately, at 4:20. [Kotaku]

<![CDATA[Metallic Silver Expands DS Lite Rainbow to 1,000,001 Colors in U.S.]]> Nintendo's tried-and-true strategy for jolting hardware sales that aren't white hot (aside from bullshit shortages) is to toss a new color into the mix. And it works! Today's color is metallic silver, like the original DS, but shinier. Ooo, shiny. [Kotaku]

<![CDATA[Limited-Edition DS a-Go-Go as Bathing Ape Gives the Lite a Caselift]]> Yesterday's matte black limited-edition DS has been superseded by a Louie Vouie-esque design from cult Japanese fashion line Bathing Ape. Available in either white or a rather dingy gold, the case is stamped with Mario and Bape faces, with the Mario star thrown in for good measure. Available in Japan from April 1, expect this to sell out pronto. [highsnobiety via Kotaku]

<![CDATA[Limited-Edition Honeybee DS Lite is Monochrome, Smooth, Sophisticated, Japan-only]]> The creative result of a collaboration between Designer Hiroshi Fujiwara and Japanese fashion magazine Honeybee, this Nintendo DS Lite sports a matte black exterior with co-ordinating jazzy white interior and hinges. Ok, so "creative" means they just painted it black and white, but it is classy isn't it? Wait 'til you see the inside.

<![CDATA[World's Smallest DS is Real Paper Mario]]> With dimensions of 1.4" x 0.75" x 0.25", the paper craft Nintendo DS is so small, it makes your manhood look like the Maxblaster. The art work was put together by Nintendo fanboy, SonicScape Jun, who has such a steady hand, he should have clearly been surgeon. The scaled replica may not work, but it does have a functioning hinged case and even a teeny-weeny game card, which can be inserted into the main unit. Jump for another picture of the miniature marvel.

nds%20paper%202%20GI.jpgWe know; you are not to sure why, but you want one. We are experiencing the same mixed emotions at this point in time. Luckily, all you need is some glue, a knife, some basic office supplies, Jun's PDF instruction kit and you are on your way. Apparently, it will take 1.5-hours to make, but be warned; your fat, blubbery fingers will probably make this project next to impossible. Stress levels are likely to increase to fist-through-LCD-screen type proportions. For the sake of the LCD, give this one a miss, we beg you. Against our best advice, you can hit the link for the detailed how to. [Tekenstein, PDF Instructions via Technabob]

<![CDATA[Another Nintendo DS Redesign on the Way?]]> Gamespot is reporting that a redesign to the mega-popular Nintendo DS is complete and will hit the market when DS Lite sales taper off. Gamespot's source, financial analyst Evan Wilson, claims the revamped DS will be slimmer, lose the GBA port, add on-board memory and have larger screens.

While Nintendo has yet to comment on the matter, it seems about time for some sort of a Nintendo update in the portable market (the first DS hit stores in November 2004). Then again, it almost seems like it's time for a new portable system altogether from Nintendo. While the Gameboy Advance saw two redesigns during it's lifecycle, the Game Boy Micro its final redesign, was announced after the DS.

In any case, the mention of the on-board memory is especially interesting. Could Nintendo be adding media player functions to the DS? [Gamespot via Firing Squad]

It's not for people who haven't cracked open and fiddled with stuff before, as you'll be, you know, building your own cartridge, but how satisfying will that first rumble be if you pull it off? <![CDATA[What Happens When a Nintendo DS Lite and Pikachu Get Busy]]>

This sunny-side-up DS Lite is the limited edition result of a love-in with PIkachu and Nintendo. However, the bad news is that there's no guarantee you'll get your paws on one, as this yella fella with Pikachu etched on the cover is so limited that it's only available via a lottery system (and $139). If you live in Japan, get yourself down to the Pokemon Center and on the list from July 20 onwards.

<![CDATA[Who Loves the Sun: The Solar-Powered DS Lite]]> The maniacs at Tom's Hardware behind the solar Wii have done it again, this time making a solar Nintendo device that's a bit more portable. Yes, they've brought their sun-loving ways to the DS Lite, making a version that lets you have marathon Mario Kart DS sessions without needing to plug in and get rejuiced.

Personally, I'm not exactly a whiz with the soldering iron, so I'd be afraid of accidentally fusing two of my fingers together, but this looks like a pretty sweet project for the more handy of you out there, so be sure to check out their step-by-step guide showing how they created this monster.

<![CDATA[Nintendo Planning to Update DS' Twins]]> Our multilingual brothers at Kotaku have discovered some interesting news via a French gaming magazine. Apparently big N is working on yet another DS hardware update, this time upgrading its dual screens from 3 inches to the vicinity of 3.5-or 3.8-inches. I can see why Nintendo released the DS Lite (the original DS was a porker) and I can see the need for bigger screens, but uh, Nintendo, could you please release one handheld with all these upgrades instead of teasing us with multiple hardware upgrades?

<![CDATA[Video Strip-Tease for Geeks: Nintendo DS Lite Totally Disassembled]]>
If you've ever had the desire to take apart a Nintendo DS Lite, watching this video might be a vicarious way to accomplish that rather than facing the prospect of putting it back together afterward. The narrator with the weird accent describes what we're seeing—the complete disassembly of the handheld gaming player—with nary an explanation as to why he's doing it.

Yeah, this video is long, but we found it strangely and hypnotically interesting to see the piece-by-piece deconstruction of the DS Lite, and marveled at the dozens of parts hidden inside. Don't try this at home, but if you do, when it's time to put it back together, try playing the video in reverse.

<![CDATA[Nintendo Announces Pricing for Black DS Lite]]>

For those who watch every move in the saga of the Nintendo DS Lite, now the company has officially announced pricing for the black version of the much-sought-after portable gaming machine. Despite rumor and speculation indicating otherwise, the Black DS Lite will cost 16,800 Yen ($145) in Japan, the same price as the white, light blue, enamel blue and pink ones. It will go on sale September 2. No word yet about whether we'll see this shiny and ominous version of the DS Lite in North America or Europe. No matter what, I refuse to use the word "sleek" when referring to anything that's shiny and black.

<![CDATA[Nintendo Announces Pink DS Lite]]> Nintendo fan boys and girls the world over will be delighted to know that the DS Lite will soon be available in that color of flamingos, a girly-looking powdery shade the company calls Noble Pink.

If you're getting all excited about something like this, well, you're easily excitable, but from what we can discern from Nintendo's Japanese language website, you'll have to wait until July 20th to pick one up for $144. With the addition of this color, soon the Nintendo DS Lite will be available in four colors: Crystal White, Ice Blue, Enamel Navy, and this pink one. We're not really seeing anything noble about it—they should have called it Girly Pink.
