What this means to you is that developers can now tailor their apps to receive notifications in the background while it's not running, something supremely useful for apps like AIM, and to a lesser extent, Twitter and other social networking apps. The target date back at WWDC for when you'd get your hands on the background notification was September, which seems right seeing as developers need a month or so to integrate it and then get their apps approved. Now *bling* you can *bling* always *bling* know when someone *bling* is trying to *bling* get ahold of you. *bling* [Apple Insider]

<![CDATA[iBuddy Meatspace Instant Message Notification Guy Now On Sale]]> That iBuddy MSN emote guy we caw back at CES is now on sale at Brando for $20. If you don't remember, you can set up notifications on your MSN buddies, so that when they sign on, the iBuddy goes nuts and flaps its wings. It also recognizes up to eight emotes and blinks/flaps/explodes accordingly. Sucks that it's only MSN-compatible out of the box, but should be easily hackable to support just about all networks. <![CDATA[Picture Frame Shows Which of Your IM and Skype Friends Are Online]]> We absolutely love it when cyberspace and meatspace intersect, which is why we're enthused over this Online Notification Picture Frame. It's a DIY project that connects via some interface (the guy doesn't say) to a computer, which feeds online status information back to the display. If a person's online, the LED next to his photo lights up. We'd prefer it if this were a more digital solution like an actual photo frame that dynamically displayed the pictures of people who were online, but this is a good start. <![CDATA[Xbox 360 Notification Service]]> I know, you're still hurt and weepy from a week without an Xbox 360—and yet you didn't succumb to the schemers selling the consoles on eBay. Well check out Notify360.com. This service, which tracks online retailers for Xbox 360 boxes, will alert you when they come back on sale. The catch? There are three levels of service: Silver is free and you'll get an email within 30 minutes to one email address; Gold is $30 and you'll get that email in up to three places in just 15 minutes with an additional $10 Amazon.com gift certificate; and Platinum is $60, giving you instant notification at up to 5 email addresses, also with the $10 gift certificate. Oh, and by the way, there are only 2,000 spots available in the Platinum level. The notification will be an actual link to the product page of the store that is selling it and if it's sold out by the time you get there, well at least you will keep getting inbox alerts. Now doesn't that make you feel a whole lot better?

This service definitely borders on fishy. But it looks like the Best Buy Xbox 360 Inventory Google Map is out of commission—so the options for finding an Xbox 360 are limited. Still, where have all the good Samaritan programmers gone?
