Hopefully it'll be a true DS 2.0 rather than the shitty 1.5 DSi

Man, if the current platform can be paired with decent graphics and HD video, that'll put the DS more toe-to-toe capabilities-wise with the PSP.

Software, though... Bratz HD isn't exactly something to look forward to. Let's hope that devs will be hooked to make more games aimed at older audiences.

@Caeruleas: Yes, there is crap stuff on the DS, but seriously, if you like certain types of games (read: old-school RPGs), the DS is a gold-mine.

New Pokemon, new FF Tactics, new Suikoden, remakes of Dragon Quests and the 2D FFs and Disgaea, rereleased Chrono Trigger, Valkyrie Profile, The World Ends With You, Mario & Luigi RPG, three different Tales games (though none in the US grr), etc.

It may not have the 3D guts to pull off FPSes or other 3D games as well as the PSP, but it has a respectable library with more big name turn-based RPGs than anything else this generation (mostly because the PS3 and XBox haven't had too many RPGs, but still).

Obviously, if you're hacking your PSP to play PS1 games, you can get a bigger game library, but I don't think the DS has suffered the lack of good core games nearly as badly as the Wii has.

This comment confuses me. On the one hand, anyone with half a brain knows that the DS platform is way above and beyond the PSP brand. On the other hand, it just seems like you have no idea what you're talking about.

@CustomFirmware: For widescreen, depending on what screen ratio Nintendo goes with, there's several good options:

    624x390 for 16:10
    704x396 for 16:9
650x390 for whatever ratio 800x480 is
    576x384 for 3:2

All the above have screen hieghts that are close or the same as 2x of the DS, making it optimal for backwards compatibility (390 pixels gets 3-pixal black bars and 396 gets 6-pixel black bars)

Though for all we know the next DS could have a single flexible/foldable OLED screen (which would be awesome btw)

In reply to Confirmed: Zune HD Rocks the Nvidia Tegra
Wow, this is the first time reading a tech blog where the comments section isnt filled with complete hate for zune and love for ipod. I own an ipod touch, and completely love it (first apple product in like 10 years), but as much as i love it, I might have to grab a zune now. If they can somehow integrate a good control method (my biggest complaint against games on itouch/phone) then I think this could be a real killer device, even if it dosn't catch on in the public eye, because its not an apple product.

In no way am I ragging on either apple or MS in this post.

Now it's just a matter of how big the HDD is. Odds are it won't be big enough. I could go with 64GB with some sacrifices. Why can't any of these companies pair a HDD with a touchscreen anyway!?

@Kiamat: HDDs add massive bulk, and also make it much more fragile. Plus no matter what, you will never have enough space, people will always want more. I know your not the norm, but most people dont need 64gigs of space I have an 8gig ipod, and i have hit the ceiling, but i wouldnt need more then 32 for a good year or two easily.
