No biggie man! Glad to hear you guys had a ton of people on the site. Next time add some more ads to the live blog page and make it worth the time and effort! ;)
Thanks for the apology but other sites were about the same or worse. You may have faults but some sites didn't have one picture come up until 40 minutes into it. Many of those are from much bigger companies too. Sure you have troubles but it is better than average and plus who gives us your level of commentary.
Plus since the iPod Touch didn't get a camera the fault couldn't have happened at a better time.
"unable to keep up with the number of readers on the site" sounds like excellent news to me. It means that folks know to come to Giz as the authority on the low down on whats happening. Thats credibility. Way to go Giz!
With all of the issues you'd think something groundbreaking had been announced by Apple today instead of yet another ho-hum evolutionary release of the Nano...
@XsTatiC: Well lets be honest, I think giz gets more views than kotaku, so that might not work as cleanly as you assume. Also the livepoll was absolutely bitchin. I want that thing back. Make it happen giz
@Coulterboy: Agreed that Giz gets more users. Would love to know an approx daily unique users stat on each, but unfortunately can only get Alexa. Giz: 848, Kotaku: 1225.
Anyway, all of that's completely irrelevant. Kotaku plugs in a 3rd party liveblog tool, CoverItLive, which seems to handle the users and take strain off of Gawker servers caused because of page refreshes.
No livepoll though, but I do like the CoverItLive stuff. I remember Kotaku was going through a trial-and-error stage... trying out a bunch of different liveblog tools. It was mostly errors it seemed until they landed their current solution.
But really... the Apple liveblog worked fine today once the poll was ditched... so really my rambing means nothing. I apparently just have time to kill by posting in comments on gadget blogs, stating my opinions for nobody to read. Weeee... look at me go.
No problem. The real sad thing is I don't even want to log in any more because this whole new commenting system is fucked. It has become elitist and to me it doesn't seem like you could get in touch with the bloggers anymore. Sad, but true. Still like to read it though.
I had issues, that led to me reinstall three times. First time, I did an upgrade. Finder immediately crapped the bed upon starting up. Then I did I clean install. When I finished I used Time Machine to migrate my stuff. Finder was broke again, with a spinning beach ball of doom. Finally I reinstalled clean again, installed the SAME applications fresh, transferred my pictures/music/movies, and set up my keychain/user preferences. Everything was identical across all three installs, EXCEPT the fonts. I left out my font collection and everything was fine.
@MrBlahBlah: Not from what I've seen, other than going in while you still have leopard on there, and removing them manually. I had a serious amount of fonts installed though. Like 2000+.

We forgive you. Well, I do at least. I hoped over to gdgt which I think you are a part of and then jumped back when things were semi working.

Anyway, just my 2cents. I still came back and read the Giz liveblog once things were working.

Is there anyways to leave the fonts out on an upgrade?
