Still happy with my White Macbook (Late 2006 model). It's kind of funny that we're in 2009 now and mine has the same 2.0ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2gb RAM, and 120gb HD.

I guess Moore was wrong. Shouldn't these have a 4ghz chip in them now?

So I bought the white polybody 9 days ago, because I am a bargain hunting student. Needless to say I'm pretty upset I bought the previous out of date model without being warned of the upgrade. I am within apple's 14 day return program, what are the odds I can go to to the store near me, and swap for a new one? Any suggestions appreciated.

@Shane Edel: I think you have to pay a 10% restocking fee, so you've got to decide whether it's worth $100 to get the upgraded specs. If it were me, I'd do it.

@jimothy: Since buying the original, I spent 50 dollars at OWC to up the ram to 4gb. So does the upgraded graphics card and newer processor warrant the 100$ restocking fee? And will this purchased ram be compatible with the new processor? Again any suggestions appreciated.

@Shane Edel: The RAM will work, as it's still DDR2 (not DDR3, as in the aluminum MacBook). Whether it's worth it or not is up to you, but I'd say yes.

@jimothy: Alright, though I don't need these upgrades, I want them, for free! haha. It just sucks feeling cheated out of the two in the first place, it has only been 9 days from purchase. I'm going to call up the store near me and see if I can't get them to help me out, I'll post what happens in case anyone else is in my situation. If anyone wants to weigh in on the matter, please do

If you upgrade to the new Macbook, you're going to loose your Firewire port. I don't know if that's something that you use or not, but if you have an external hardrive, audio interface or video camera ... that Firewire port sure is handy.

Well here's the deal. My white plastic Macbook's corner broke off. The bluetooth had to be disassembled (by me) and re-routed internally to work. It creaks and groans when picked up from a corner. It doesn't dissipate heat. It gets scratched to hell. Plus its PLASTIC. PLASTICKCKcckkkcuh.

Also, kiss the new trackpad goodbye. So basically they just upgraded the computer so they aren't laughed off spec-wise when it comes to the bargain hunter on the education store. Although my external 250 firewire drive would be nice to use without a 400-800 cable and a pro-line laptop. Gods damn it. (sorry, too much battlestar)

@frigg: Maybe that was a bit overstated, but it's close. I've only taken one for a spin for a bout 30 minutes, but I would have a hard time buying a mac book without one.

Let me put it this way. How much is a 2+ button mouse worth on a PC? I probably wouldn't spend $300 on one, but I can't imagine using a PC with a single buttoned mouse. If all 1 button mice were $300 I would probably be thinking about it.

@Douch3er: Unless you get orgasms every time you use that glass trackpad, it alone is not worth anywhere near $300. What IS worth more (though perhaps not $300 more) would be the overall improvement in build quality/durability and that LED display, not to mention that glass panel instead of plastic. So far, the white Macbook is seriously winning with its firewire port and price difference.

I wish they still sold the black ones. The white Macbooks look dandy when new, but after some heavy use, the discoloring will diminish that niftiness. I'm tempted to just get one of these instead though, since they're so friggin cheap.

Ponies!: listen if your looking to compensate yourself with something go buy a lambo. if the "polybody" is equally spec'd then its just as good and only a complete fool would spend 300 more. with that money you could buy a xbox, a couple of games and a live account or even start saving up for your lambo.

@theninjaelephant: The Aluminum unibody is so sleek and sexy, I never want to touch crappy plastic again. $300 seems like a lot for just an aluminum case, but you also get the newer glass trackpad, glass screen cover (huge improvement in quality IMO), Faster memory, and a larger hard drive.

Yeah, that's worth the extra $300 to me. I own a Macbook Pro, and I'm sold on (and in love with) the unibody quality.
