I said it from the beginning - the "UMPC" was a disastrous concept. OQO actually preceded the term, but actually suffered twice as much for it as people expected similar devices at $500 UMPCs that never came from OQO or anyone else. Instead OQO had a $1200 device that was not quite as useful as a laptop, not quite as portable as a blackberry, and filled a need that few had. Then Eee came along with a device that was much more useful, less expensive, and almost as portable. That was the nail in the coffin for them.
I must be the only one impressed that they are able to make a device that nice at that price. I know that it takes a real niche to justify it, but none the less, I am amazed at what is possible. Besides, if you are buying gadgetry to impress, this will blow away a MacBook Air, and keep a few bills in your pocket to boot.
Unfortunately, I have never been able to afford to buy a gadget to impress anyone, so -- this fine piece of machinery is, sadly, not for me.
So with the advent and release of products with 1.86 GHz Atom processors, you think the netbook flock will start to get them or just drop the prices on the Eee's?
Just an observation. The left & right click mouse and the zoom buttons should be moved to the right end. Right and Left click should be side by side with the track ball underneath and the zoom buttons below that. Just makes more sense to the user.
