if you are stupid enough to do certain things that put you at risk then you get what you deserve. We learn from our mistakes. I learn from others and there mistakes. I get my stuff from legit sources.
@MadCrazy: I have no idea why you say that. He makes a point. People should get their stuff legally and they'll avoid such things. Are you saying we should pirate?
@devilsrequiem: If you need the software for something and it is so overpriced that the only option is piracy, then I think it's fine. I don't know a single person who has paid for Photoshop, but I know 15-20 people who use it. Somebody i know paying for photoshop would shock me - it's that prohibitively expensive.
@craig_16: I paid for Photoshop CS3 because it's the tools I require for my job. By your reasoning it would also be ok for cabinet makers to go into Home Depot and steal drill presses, routers and table saws, because those things are very expensive.
I wish Adobe products were cheaper, but there are alternatives that are less expensive. You simply prefer to whine and bitch about it, and condone an illegal act, because you obviously have no legitimate skills to earn enough money to purchase it legally, or lack the cognitive skills required to seek cheaper alternatives.
You have built up a delusional thesis to supports your own inadequacy, and you use your peers (who are apparently equally lazy and/or dumb, by your own admission) as a means of support for your illogical statements. It would be interesting, if down the line, you were the owner of a retail outlet that was frequented by thieves. I wonder how you might feel then.
@evangelistc01: Well, my cat can't afford £450 for photoshop and will never buy it for the price it is, so they aren't losing a sale when my cat pirates it. My cat would only consider buying Photoshop if it were priced at or below £150. I mean come on, Leopard, an entire operating system, would cost me less than £60 and Office Home and Student edition is £110. The iLife, iWork and Leopard box set will cost £150 and that includes an operating system, office suite and a whole host of lifestyle applications. Where is the bloated price of Photoshop coming from if you can get all of that for £150? I understand that it's a professional image editing program, but I can't help think that if it cost less, people wouldn't be so eager to pirate it and they might actually fork over some hard earned cash.
I'm going to sound like a jackass, but, I told you it would happen.
And this is just the start.
I've been saying that as OSX started gaining market share we would start seeing malware for it. OSX has gotten popular enough now that a userbase of low level pirates have developed, and, since they believe they are technically competent when they really don't have a clue, it is extremely easy to get this group to install things themselves regardless of OS.
This is where it starts, from here things will get worse as more attention is paid to OSX more exploits will be found and real virii will be released into the wild to propagate freely amongst all of the unprotected Macs (and likely Hackintosh installs).
I'm also going to throw out the prediction that Apple will not do anything significant to prevent this scenario until it makes mainstream news.
Rofl at everyone @Alim Rehemtulla: Are you sure? I'm going to re-DL the installer so I can double chk. I used a trusted forum and not BT but I want to make sure.
@imaria: I suppose anyone who wants something that's remotely similar to Office, but just didn't feel like paying the Office price. Of course, if you paid for the Mac already, what's the difference if you pay more for Microsoft's suite. One upshot of iWork, however, is that it's not bound by a limited number of installs. You just need the key.
@srdailey: If you ever want comedy, just go to TechFanErik's profile, and click his Myspace link. It's hee-larry-us. Oh my god, if there ever was a template profile for a guy never getting laid, his is it. From...

to
the picture of Shia Ladouche
to
the picture of himself, taken, by himself (aaawww, someone is so unpopular that no one wants to take a picture of you.)
to
the begging of shoutouts to women
and so on and so on. Now that I think about it, it's kinda not funny, but more really sad. Hey kid, don't worry, there's one solution...
Please point me towards your page, im sure its filled up with how you spend your life commenting on a tach blog :)
First off, your not going to gain any popularity saying you dont like nickelback, most people love them, sorry. But props for making fun of our military, i would love for you to say that to some of my friends serving in iraq right now. Actually i would love to take you down to my recruiting office and have you say that to all the kids volunteering for this country.
Now for shia, you must be insanely jealous of him or something not to admit he's an amazing actor, with the help of steven speildburg he's going to be the next tom hanks.
Taking pictures of myself? Have you nothing else to insult?! :D hahahahaha.
Atleast im cute enough to have pictures.
Hahaha look at your page! Your such a loser that you have nothing to say about yourself?! :D
With kids like that you must not be a good lookin fellow. Get a life dude.
Well, now then... Can anyone suggest a good, free anti-virus then? Apple isn't as invulnerable as their rabid fanboys make them out to be. Like AVG or Avast for Windows.
HAHAHAHAHA! Ha. Anyways, I bet you hipster douchebags aren't feeling so invulnerable now that another bit of malware has been found for your precious OS! This is gonna spread like wildfire because a good portion of you fools felt yourself immune to viruses and neglected to take proper security measures.
@TechFanErik: You do realize that we all know you are talking out of your ass and because you won't cease this obnoxious behavior it is now our duty to rip everything you say to fucking shreds just so you will properly know your place at the end of the day, right?
@TechFanErik: You are by no means talking an 'unpopular stance'. First, there are plenty of people here, myself included who own and use Apple products. They are not unpopular. Secondly, the issue people have is the fact that you parrot useless comments over and over, mostly with no facts to back them up. It's all; "Apple is better than Microsoft.", "Snow Leopard is gonna kick ass.", "All phones are junk compared to the iphone."
You pulled the same crap when you used to post as iAirmanshirk. Enough already. I thought maybe Uncle Sam would have pounded some maturity into you during basic training. Obviously that was not the case..
Shame, because it means that the story is likely to remain buried here in techie world while the mainstream public remains blissfully ignorant. Apple probably won't do anything more than issue a removal patch (which will undoubtedly also nuke the pirated iWork)... I honestly don't think they're going to take security seriously (and by "seriously" I mean not just relying on OSX's 'nix core and obscurity) until they get hit hard in the mainstream media.
Installing pirated software on your computer is just begging for all sorts of nasty trojans, worms and backdoors to set up shop on your PC. I hope you don't do any online banking if you get your software this way.
@Serolf Divad: It all depends on where you get stuff. Random P2P, File hosting site, Hacked FTP, IRC Bot, etc. you're probably asking for trouble.
Straight from a respected Scene release group, through trusted channels, you're probably safe. There are rules that regulate Scene releases and if they break them the wrath of the whole scene shall fall upon them... basically, they would never be able to use the internet again, their personal / financial info would be leaked, and there would be a good chance of a government entity showing up at their door.
@ripfire: Doesn't matter if it's official or not, it has exposed to the general public what security wonks have know for years, OSX is nowhere near bulletproof nor anywhere near as secure as people are led to believe.
The draw for many people to OSX is the belief that it is impervious to malware, no matter what they do. For Apple to be behind this, whether officially or not, would be catastrophically stupid. The damage to OSX's "safe" image would be far more costly than if even a huge portion of Mac owners pirated iWork.

I totally installed CS4 Master collection 2 weeks ago and cracked in by granting root access to a disable_activation_osx script.
Luckily everything is still running wonderfully. Ehh--close call. Time to start being careful.

Windows 7 is, so far, a wonderful OS with loads of promise and so fanboys like Erik have lost the 'vista sux lmfao' ammo.
All you have left is hoping, praying and wishing that Windows 7 will be somehow 'buried' by yet another hum-drum OSX upgrade.
