<![CDATA[T-Mobile Pushing Android Cupcake Update OTA (Honest!)]]> Android 1.5, otherwise known as Cupcake, has caused way, way more grief than any incremental cellphone OS update has a right to, is finally, truly pushing OTA—not just developers, not just Brits, but to regular American G1's. This, I promise you hope, will be the last we ever have to speak of it. —Thanks NiGHTS, Andrew, Others

<![CDATA[iPhone 3.0 Lifts 10MB Over-the-Air Download Cap For Podcasts]]> This could easily get snuffed out before release, but OS 3.0 beta users can download >10MB podcasts over 3G. An annoying catch: the 10MB limit is still in place for the app store.

The change, discovered by Macrumors forums user getinline1, preempts a dissonance that I wondered about during the Keynote: How could Apple/AT&T/everyotheriPhonecarrierintheworld justify a 10MB cap on downloads when they're allowing continuous video streams in apps? They couldn't, I guess, and it's great news for podcast listeners, who will no longer be forced to endure the daily info-nugget podcasts that exlusively inhabit the sub-10MB corners of the iTunes store. [Macrumors —Thanks, Jeremy!]

<![CDATA[Sprint Instinct Firmware Update Includes Non-Crappy Browser]]> The Instinct firmware update BH29 was pushed out over the air (a cool feature in and of itself) a few days ago, with one main purpose: fixing the browser with an entirely new codebase. Lame page rendering and navigation were our biggest problems with the Instinct, so this update is definitely worth exploring. Release notes after the jump. [EverythingInstinct]

Version: BH29
Delivery: OTA
Projected Release Date: 9/17 (client initiated) 9/24 (network initiated) Projected Release Dates are best estimates and are subject to change with no notice.

Notes: Instinct firmware BH29 includes the resolution of 249 tickets open since the previous public firmware release, BF30. The release also marks the first public release of the updated Instinct Web Browser, version 1.1. The new browser is based on an entirely new codebase and brings an 10x improvement to rendering speed, most noticeable in the areas of pan/zoom/resize functionality.

New browser features include:
* VC Button -> Hide/show controls; browser controls can be hidden to provide more screen to webpage display
* Favorites enhancements -> Improvements to favorites UI allows for sticky mode lock
* 34 other web browser tickets resolved

<![CDATA[Sony Ericsson Upgrading PlayNow to Real Live Music Store With 5 Million Tracks From the Big Four]]> In addition to the trio of new handsets they intro'd today, Sony Ericsson also announced plans for an upgraded PlayNow music service. Launching this spring, it could feature up to 5 million tracks in "MP3 and Windows Media digital rights management, or DRM-enabled formats" from all of the Big Four, though no track price has been relayed. On the upside (or downside, if you spend compulsively), you can have your tab tacked onto your cellphone bill. Interestingly, SE's planning to cut service providers in on revenues from OTA downloads. Sounds like it's off to a better start than Nokia's competing venture at any rate. [WSJ]

<![CDATA[Sidekick 3 Update Launching Now, Adds myFaves]]> If there are two things in common with Sidekick 3 owners is that they're all a bunch of chatty Kathies and they love hanging out with teenagers. T-Mobile's upcoming Over-the-Air (OTA) update can help them with the first, but not with the second.

Once your SK3 is brought up to speed with Release 3.4, you'll have access to myFaves, an improved "Active" address book, a text message character counter, and the ability to save photo attachments from emails onto your SK3 photo album. The automatic update is rolling out starting today, but will be gradually deployed over a month, so don't worry if you haven't gotten it yet.
