Their Windows 7 Cafe is now open for business.

As you will see in the gallery complied by Le Journal du Geek, it looks like a pretty cool place to hang out and have a drink. They don't sell anything but food there, but it gives patrons an opportunity to play around with various Microsoft products. Wouldn't mind having a few of these on this side of the Atlantic. <![CDATA[First Augmented Reality iPhone App Now Available For Paris Travelers]]> After a whole bunch of hype, the first augmented reality app for the iPhone 3GS is now available (Yea!)...for Paris subway travelers (Ugh).

Metro Paris Subway 3.0 has been updated to help commuters find POIs using a live video mode. Now that the floodgates are open, how long will we have to wait for Twitter-based reality augmentation? I'm sure it's just around the corner (Sigh...). [MacNN]

<![CDATA[Sony Ericsson Cancels Paris and BeiBei Smartphones]]> Sony Ericsson's Paris, much coveted by S-E purists, has been canned, according to the Unofficial Sony Ericsson Blog. The Paris, aka the P5i, has been filed under T (for trash) alongside its sister smartphone, the BeiBei, or the G702. Apparently it's to do with the less-than-enthusiastic reactions from some of the mobile phone bloggers, who weren't exactly gagging for it. There's also speculation that a lot of its features were already lagging behind those of its competitors—and this is before it had even hit the streets. I guess we'll never have Paris. <![CDATA[Louvre Apple Store Now Official, Mona Lisa Keeps Smiling]]> The Gioconda will be surrounded by fanboys with white earbuds soon, as Apple gets ready to open an Apple Store in the Louvre following the official approval of the project. Like the Regent Street store in London or the Fifth Avenue store in NYC, the Louvre store will be located in one of the busiest tourism spots in the planet, with 8.3 million visitors each year.

"We are delighted that our project of opening a store at the Carrousel du Louvre was approved by the CDEC. Our stores have an enormous success in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Italy."

According to French site Nanoblog, the Louvre Apple Store will use 7,696-square-feet on two floors, using the space that was previously occupied by Résonnance and Lalique. [Nanoblog via Textually]

<![CDATA[Sony Ericsson Paris Promo Vid Confirms a Few Rumors]]> We've been talking about the upcoming Sony Ericsson Paris cellphone for a while, but we've not had much to go on. But now this new promo vid confirms that it'll have some kind of weather widget and also demos Google maps app in action, plus the (presumed) 5-megapixel camera. Also looks like there's an orientation sensor in there. Oh, and it'll make calls too. [Youtube]

<![CDATA[Sony Ericsson Paris Slider Leaked?]]> We don't have many details of this Sony Ericsson smartphone called the "Paris", but se-nse.net claims that it's a slider, runs Symbian UIQ 3.3 and has quite a large screen. Below the screen will be a P1-style keyboard, meaning two letters per key. That's pretty much all we know, except for a supposed May announcement and September release. That weather widget looks pretty similar to the one in OS X Dashboard if you ask us. Which you did. We heard you! [Se-nse]

<![CDATA[iPod Trunk from Pinel & Pinel Probably the Most Gorgeous Around]]> Parisian trunkmaker Pinel & Pinel's iPod case is the kind of iPod case I'd like to get my hands on—if I hadn't dropped my iPod before Christmas, that is. Made from leather-covered wood, its built-in speakers are Altec-Lansing, and it's got a couple of pockets so you don't lose your accessores (I know my USB connector is somewhere in the house, anyone with a psychic grandmother please contact her now and tell her that there's a lost cable that needs her help.) <![CDATA[Electrolux Design Lab Finalists Biting Their Nails as the Winner is Announced]]> The winner of Electrolux's Design Lab 2007 competition will be announced tomorrow in Paris, and these are the final eight products hoping to win their creator 5,000 ($7,435). The brief was to design something eco-friendly and sustainable for 2020, and sexiest is the Fog Shower by Joo Diego Schlmansky from Brazil, which consumes just two liters of water during a five-minute shower. It's all to do with the mist of microscopic water droplets, rather than a traditional shower, which uses around 20 liters for the same amount of scrub-up time.

<![CDATA[PS3 European Launch: A Continent Yawns and Continues Picking Its Nose]]> You've already heard about the free tellies and taxis over in London, well this is how the PS3 was welcomed in France - with a gallic shrug. Just 60 per cent of its 100,000 available units have been reserved, a smattering of press attended the official launch - and a pleasure boat coated with Xbox logos parked itself next to the Eiffel Tower for that all-important photo-op before chugging up and down the Seine. Yes, it was Microsoft who pulled out all the stops and got first dibs on what little press attention there was.

At midnight Spain, a major Sony stronghold, they were giving away half-price consoles but this morning retailers were reporting that the 600€ PS3s were not exactly flying off the shelves. An informal poll in El Corte Ingles, Spain's biggest retail chain, showed that there were still enough consoles to last until at least next week. Video of le bâteau in Paris and more European indifference/desperation after the jump.

The night before the Mayor of Madrid (he's the one looking at the la-las of the lady on his left in the picture below) was up way past his bedtime to present a cute tweenager with her first console courtesy of Banesto bank. They were selling PS3 at half the price to tout for new business (to get that offer you had to tell your employer to transfer your salary to your Banesto bank account for a minimum of 25 months). T-shirts with "My mom had her paycheck paid into Banesto and all I got was this lousy T-shirt" "I've got Playstation 3" emblazoned on the front and baseball caps were also doled out.

In Berlin, german gamers were treated to a free gig, courtesy of those nice people at Sony (thankfully, no David Hasselhoff). Italy got its consoles two days before everyone else, after retailers Darty announced that their PS3s were going on sale on Wednesday morning. Ooh, those Italians can't half be rebellious when they want to.

<![CDATA[Adidas Opens First Store with Virtual Shopping Mirrors]]> Too lazy to try on a new pair of shoes? The Adidas Shop in Paris, France is the first store to roll out virtual shopping mirrors. In a nutshell, these mirrors let you select the shoes you want to "try on" and thanks to the cameras inside the mirrors, they merge the image of your feet/legs with the shoes you've selected, so you can "virtually" try them on. I think the concept is cool, but I'd be more concerned over the fit than how they look.

<![CDATA[Tour Paris with the Digi-Guide]]> Yeah, you could simply walk around and look up throughout Paris, but why not keep your nose pointed to a GPS-enabled PDA to truly enjoy a city. Digi-Guide is a PDA based program that uses GPS to give a walking tour of Paris. The PDA and software can be rented from a participating retailer in Paris and will provide guides and information about everything Paris. The rental fee is €30 or around $37. Kind of a neat guide and it sure beats out walking around town in a group of 20 people all wearing headphones listening to somebody talk about the attractions while walking backwards.
