@itchytooth: K20D still has that weird JPG compression issue (of course it doesn't matter if you're shooting RAW which everyone should be doing these days anyhow). I think I'll be upgrading my K10D to this. Time to make some movies with my Pentax. Go Pentax (in white please)!
@Novenus: Honestly, I've shot mostly JPG with my K10D, and usually thought they looked great. However, I'm starting to understand how great RAW is lately since I've been using a Sigma DP2, with which I only shoot RAW (pretty much have to).
@itchytooth: The post processing and embedded info in RAW files for Photoshop gives me so much flexibility in fixing relatively bad photos! I love it. And considering how cheap 16GB SDHC cards are (which gives you around 960 shots in RAW format) why wouldn't you? :) Granted I take photos of my paintings mostly, but... (paintings are notoriously difficult to photo well, by the way)
Can't wait to get a hold of this if it holds up well. Been using the Pentax K-10 with the expandable battery pack for my professional work for a while now and I was hoping they'd have a good replacement coming out. I use Nikon's for some of my work but I always, always have gone back to these guys simply because of price, defiantly worth the money, not what you shoot with but how and if I can save a few bucks and use older lens and have the shake reduction built in, BOYA! Pentax thank you.
@Eugenia:
Agreed...coupling a fancy DSLR that are for people who are at least somewhat serious about photography with video features and then saying "eh this part is just for filming your cat till you get bored of it" is totally missing the mark. Manual features are in many ways more a must for videography than photography because with photography if you don't like what the auto did you can always take another picture, and you're more likely to want auto features to adjust quickly on the fly...whereas with video adjusting quickly on the fly without manual control makes your videos look like crap.
Panasonic TS1 is not that much of a revelation either.
You have to replace all the seals every year and it's not doable by you or free. Image quality is not that great also. Cramming all these pixels in a tiny sensor is not that good aparently, no mtter the brand. The Canon D10 is quite good but it is very very ugly.
Overall the Pentax could be a very good camera (if they had kept the W60 sensor), but it's simply on OK camera. Not bad at all.
So, it's a little cheaper and a little worse than the Panasonic TS1? Am I understanding correctly? It's a shame, because I actually like the design of this more than the TS1.
I've never owned a digital camera, but am working in Germany this fall so I'm thinking I should invest in one. Can anyone offer any ideas as to which one I should get? My only requirement is that it is slim, as in less than an inch. Is this one my best bet? Also, cheaper is better.
@Brett Benedict: Canon or bust. I've always used Canons, and I'm in love with them.
If you go too cheap, some lesser companies use part-plastic lenses, which don't take as good pictures so watch out for that if you're going in the low $100 - $150 range...
