Let the Pre sync with iTunes! Hell, let anything sync with iTunes, it just means more people will use your store, Apple... though I personally endorse Amazon's MP3 store over iTunes.

My music is organized just the way I like it in iTunes, and I know how to use it well. I have tried Foobar, WMP, WinAmp, Songbird, you name it and just can't get used to them. I also can't use them with my AppleTV and my iPod without jumping through hoops. So you know what? I like this. Stick it to the man Palm.

'To remove soluble or other constituents from by the action of a percolating liquid.'
That sounds kinda painful.

Furthermore the mp3 player market is dominated by iPod's, so giving someone the chance to go seamlessly to syncing everything at once with something they are experienced with, iTunes, instead of making some half assed program is frankly great. Keep it up Palm.
And before anyone says I am a Palm fanboy or something, keep in mind I have two iPod touches, an iPod Nano, I was actually considering buying an iPhone and about 3 weeks ago I bought my first Macbook. So no biased comments here.

It just seems very immature and low of Palm to do these tactics they are doing. Like I said, I understand the reasoning, but I don't think they really have any say in the matter. They can do things respectfully through XML like every other company does. Apple isn't the only company who restricts their software with their products, in fact almost all companies do, its pretty normal. If I was a Mac user and wanted to buy a Zune, I'd be forced to buy a PC, but no one seems to make a fuss about that. Only because its Apple do people say that "oh man its wrong Apples screwing us." Everyone needs to grow up and have some respect, especially Palm. And I can't believe its Rubinstein doing these things to Apple...

ha
ha
hahahahaha
ha.
apple will never take palm to court. there's a great engadget article about why.
i don't have the link handy, and honestly, some googling would do you good. but it's the fact that both companies are already infringing on each others' patents. and since the iphone came out first, technically, they started it. and it's not like both companies can just leave those patents out of their products, either. they're infringing on some rather important stuff with each other.

Also, Palm is doing nothing illegal with this. They are making their device look like an iPod to iTunes. Show me how that is illegal, and I'll concede. So far I've heard no proof.

Sure it was only about 4 days that you couldn’t sync your pre with itunes, but for the people who don't read tech blogs, they had no fucking idea what was going on.
Its amazing that all you people can comment on these sites, like the gadget buying public is a bunch of geeks like us. ITs just not the case. All palm did was piss off a bunch of people, and when apple patches it next week, those same people will be pissed off again.

I say go for it, Palm. Get yours.

Apple wrote iTunes, and it the central part of the iPod/iPhone ecosystem. They obviously do not want Palm to use their software product, and Palm is completely ignoring this. Palm could also easily create a media syncing application using iTunes XML file as many others have.
Palm, Apple's made it clear that they don't want you using their software to sync your competing product. Stop being jerks respect the company's wishes.

Now say I have a Palm. What the hell business is it of Apples if I want to use iTunes with MY PHONE!
This is really retarded of Apple. We buy our music from them (sometimes), we use their interface. If its on my damned computer, im going to use it any damn way I see fit. ;)
/ThankYouPalm

If the Pre owner can't use iTunes, and therefore doesn't have it installed on their machine, that would be zero cashflow from Pre owners. They have nothing to lose by allowing Pres to use it.
That said, I think it would be great for Palm to make their own media-syncing application, namely because I can't stand iTunes for Windows.
07/23/09
Its apples business because apple is now a cell phone company, and they can make their software work with their cellphone and only their cellphone if they so choose. THAT's why its apples business.
07/23/09
But if Microsoft made it "their" business to force Windows to work with only Office, then you probably wouldnt be saying the same thing. Sorry but people should have control over their own music libraries; not apple.
07/23/09
They LISTENED TO THIER CUSTOMERS!!! (much significance)
/RunsOutToBuyAPalm
07/23/09
I think thats just stupid of them but good luck palm, you'll probably need it.
07/23/09
07/24/09
It has nothing to do with palm pre customers. Its a direct competitor of apple stealing their software for their own use. To put that in better terms, It would be the same as if you and I owned construction companies that were in competition with each other, and I come to you asking to borrow space in your office building. Do you see why its stupid. Apple has every right to block them. And palm is stupid if they think this won't 'hurt' them some how.

you know, it's comments like this that really bother me... Lets say, for example, I have a MacBook Pro, which i do have. Now lets say I want to get a zune. With my zune I want to get the zune software. Guess what, I can't. Zune doesn't support Macs... Yeah there are ways around it but I'll pretend for example, im the average know-nothing-about-computers user. So I have a zune that now cant get my music off my computer because Microsoft refuses to support apple.
So you'll go ahead and say apple is a bunch of dirtbags for blocking palms phone from using THEIR software, but no one seems to call out microsoft for doing the same thing.
Fact is, if palm wants to sync to ANY computer, they should right their own proprietary software to do so, just like apple did, and just like microsoft did.
What their doing now is hacking.
07/23/09
Hackers bring us happy tingly things with fluff and sparkles... like BitTorrents and Iphone jailbreaking.
/spaaaaarkly
07/23/09
As much as I see your point, and agree that hackers do some pretty cool stuff.
there is a VAST difference between someone like you or I hacking and an entire company (who should be ethically responsible) getting involved in hacking.
07/23/09
I'm sorry, screw ethics. Palm actually listened to their customers. Why doesn't anyone understand the significance. THEY LISTENED!!!

btw this is not my true opinion as it is completely one sided, however i do enjoy playing devils advocate. $5 says this person doesnt respond with anything intelligent.
07/24/09
I'm sure it's Microsoft that didn't write the Zune software for macs, but if it were the other way around, then it would still be fine. My point isn't that we should all call out Microsoft for refusing to support Zune on a mac. What I am trying to say is that Its Microsoft's right to do so, as it is Apple's right to block Pre syncing, or Zune syncing, or whatever. The fact is you get to use iTunes because you agree to Apple's end user license. The software is never truly yours, it's Apple's, and they let you use it as long as you follow their rules. So Apple has every right in the world to stop any company from using their property. There is no argument to that.
Sure, I'll agree that it probably makes a bunch of Pre users happy. It might also give Apple the iTunes music sales of a few Pre users. I'll agree that it's convenient for anyone who wants to sync their Pre to a Mac. I'm not disagreeing with you.
What I am saying is that Apple has every right to stop it. If they decide that the extra music sales revenue off Pre users isn't worth sharing their syncing software with a direct competitor, then they can act as they choose. Palm should invest in their own software rather than stealing Apple's.
I'll take my $5 now asshole.
