    Tip for photographing Gerbils in Macro mode : Put a lick of chocolate on the bottom of the camera. When you put the camera in the gerbilarium they initially move away from the strange invader, but then the smell of choc overides all sense of caution and their actions are then powered by their stomachs.

    You get what you pay for. The $1000 photog would probably give a better result, with better posing and better lighting. If you don't want to pay it, thats fine, pay what you can. But don't claim the free or $200 photog is as good as the $1000 one.

    @dtemp: You're partially right. I've seen some pricy photographers with a HORRIBLE portfolio- lost focus, color casts, dead center posing.... you name it.

    Just because someone charges $1000 to photograph your pet doesn't mean they're worth it.


    That being said, you wouldn't catch a REAL pro charging bargain basement prices so chances are no matter what you're not going to get much for $200 either.

    I'm glad I have a cat that is just as low maintenance as I am, we don't worry about these issues. All he worries about is whether or not he gets milk today and I all I worry about is whether or not he tries to bring that bird in his mouth into the house.

    My favorite dog related Far Side comic was the one where the dog was hiding behind the laundry room door, trying to lure the cat into the dryer. All the while he's standing there thinking to himself, "Oh please, oh please, oh please..." as the cat contemplates entering the open dryer...

    @Shamoononon thanks Rocephin: It took me two hours to get this photo with my dog. I had a great shot 15 minutes in, but forgot I didn't have my teeth in. I finally got this gem at about the 2 hour mark. The hardest part was getting him to look at the camera, as he looks at me. I accomplished it by throwing a treat at the camera before the shutter released.

    $1000.00? Acepromazine is way cheaper and I have a few bottle laying around the house. Nothing makes a cat/dog/horse/someone who didn't check their drink more photogenic than some prescription tranquilizers.
