I can't get over imagining it, as you said, vividly. I thought about when I've surprised anyone. They close their eyes and smile, excited at what they might get. To see your parents with that loving smile, and pull the trigger...man.
this is why I would never keep a gun in the house. Rather get shocked then killed. Although I dont think I will ever want children. Once you have em your life is over.
@PDSM: Why would you blame an inanimate object for something a person did? By your logic will you not have knives, matches, poison cleaning chemicals, etc. in your house either?
This kid is twisted, he broke into a safe to get the game and the gun, let's not blame the particular tool he used to commit his crime. When you blame a crime on the implement with which it was committed you partially excuse the perpetrator of said crime. A lifeless object cannot be evil, obviously excluding killer robots.
@TheYoshi: Guns are not the whole problem, but they do expedite violent tendencies. I would think twice about trying to kill two people with a knife, since I might be overpowered. With a gun, that restriction does not exist.
Of course, people should not want to kill other people in the first place. Unfortunately, that's not the case. Guns just make it easier for murderers.
I am interested in his sentence, as he was tried as an adult and here in Ohio (where this happened) we have the death penalty, though I doubt they apply it to anyone who was a minor no matter how bad the circumstances.
@vgart: What exactly makes this a fucked up family, other than recent developments? Keeping a gun in the house is common, and it doesn't indicate any questionable morals on the part of the parents.
From Cleveland....just when I think we cant be made fun of any more than we already are something like this happens.
A tragedy regardless of where it happens, and it seems to be happening more and more. I dont think people understand its an addiction, the same as any other addiction, and needs to be treated. Cold turkey is not something that can be forced on anyone trying to kick an addiction or this is the result.
@sabz333: Well the usual, you're going to turn into a fat useless moron with poor health unless you put down the twinkie and the controller fatty apparently isn't working in this country.
@sabz333: Yeah, this kid definitely has issues other than from video games... I played a shitload of video games while growing up and didn't come close to shooting my parents (or anyone else for that matter).
Umm, there is a thing called Game Addiction, Some of these kids/adult have no lives and spend every waking moment playing video games and you take that only escape they have from them causes different reaction in this case a kid killing his parents.
I'm addicted to cigarettes but i wouldn't actually murder people if they took em away from me - and that's a tangible, chemical, measurable addiction.
Video Game Addiction is like any other psychological dependence - it's self-perpetuated whiny bullshit.
There is no such thing as porn addiction or gaming addiction - those are just extreme examples of people who
A) have something they really like
and
B) are completely irresponsible when it comes to managing their lives
And even if there WAS legitimate 'gaming addiction', that doesn't excuse a persons actions - if a crack head kills your mother, do you really give him some sympathy because he was an addict, or do you want him simply held responsible for his actions? because its peoples actions that matter, not their 'problems' or their 'issues'.
Daddy beat you and so now you beat other people? I could not care less that your daddy beat you.
@Darksider1972: Like what nutty said, I don't think this would count as 'gaming addiction'. I believe there is deeper, underlying psychological issue that constitutes to this type of fixation. I guessing bipolar or schizophrenia.
@Matthew Harding: Go become a bartender, and tell us all how you felt compared to selling WoW time cards...
Playing too much WoW, or Second Life, or whatever is a symptom of a psychological problem. WoW et all aren't the cause of the problem, but they obsessive playing of them is a good indicator that something isn't right in the person's head. That isn't a disease, it's a side effect of the disease.
Where as say, people using alcohol or other susbstances who have developed a chemical addiction.
