Last night Pimp My Ride tricked out a 1990 Toyota Celica with big wheels, flashy paint, 2 terabytes of space, a 17" Powerbook, iPod nano,7" touch screen, & a Tr o 650. Yawn...what, no WiFi access point? Newbs.

Before this, Shawna owned not even a cellphone. If your hoopty ride doesn't get stolen, good luck trying to learn how to use all those toys while you're weaving on the freeway. Here, I'll just pre-call the ambulance for ya.

Make the jump to see inside the 1 ton iPod dock. We'll admit, the custom mount for the Powerbook ain't bad.

<![CDATA[When is a TiVo Not a TiVo? [Home Entertainment]]]> pimp_ride_tivo.pngYou know your product is successful when its brand name is commonly used both as a verb and a noun. Such is the case with TiVo, where on last week's Pimp My Ride, the show host kept talking about a "TiVo" that was most certainly not anything close to our favorite personal video recorder. Take a look at the video and see for yourself.

When you're talking about Kleenex or Xerox, the actual product or its imitators pretty much do the same thing, but come on—TiVo is a completely different animal than the lame-ass Scientific Atlanta HD8300 PVR, for example. So when is a TiVo not a TiVo? When it's not a TiVo. So there's TiVo, and then there's everything else, which we'll just call "craptastic."

By the way, I guess Pimp My Ride just got Gizmodoed.

<![CDATA[MTV MP3 Players: Adding Logs to Their Own Funeral Pyre [Portable Media]]]> - GizmodoMTV and Mini Media Europe, a UK MP3 player manufacturer, have created themed players. These are presumably designed to work with MTVs Urge service and since they're not showing videos any more—by The Hills was a pretty good show—they will also offer video playback.

The players will be pre-loaded with MTV content and come in South Park (a Viacom property) and Pimp My Ride versions. The PMR version holds about 1GB, include FM tuner and voice recorder, and a more advanced version has a 1.5-inch display and can play video. No pricing but it's a September launch.

<![CDATA[Arrest Me, Please: Spinner Exhaust Tip [Gadgets]]]> spinnerexhaust.gifAt first we thought the Spinner Exhaust Tip would suck the exhaust out of the engine faster, resulting in more horsepower, but no. It's just another one of those pimp-my-ride thingamajigs that attracts attention to the driver, nonverbally saying things like, "arrest me," or, "I'm an asshole."

The Spinner Exhaust Tip is available in two styles, Flare and Turbine, and it spins just like a pinwheel, propelled by the exhaust stream. If you really floor it, the thing bulges out of the exhaust pipe, telling everyone that you're going fast and making a lot of noise, in case they didn't notice. It's all yours for $44.95.
