It's well-established that the person you see on the cover of a magazine often bears only passing resemblance to how they look in real life. But well before Photoshop ever stamped out its first blemish, illustrators were transforming women into pin-ups that would make Tex Avery blush.
One of the things I remember from my childhood years is falling in love with a bomber girl in the cover of an old PC game. Maybe that's why I like airplanes—and airplane pinups—so much:
