Having lived in Minnesota for some time (largest Somali pop. in U.S.) It's a shame situations like this continue to effect the local view of Somali culture. Hopefully the country (and couple) can get it all sorted out
Best of luck to them on a safe return. #piratecapture
@Kung-Fu Kurtis supports Demon Child Research: Fortunately, pirating is just bizarre enough that it is really hard to assign it as a stereotype to an entire people. Unfortunately, the average American's view of Somalis is really one of ignorance. (What % of your friends do you think can point at a map and get within 300 miles of Somalia?) #piratecapture
I'd say all of my friends are familiar with the current situation and could identify the country since some of them are Somalian or know Somalian immigrants. In no way was that intended to be a slant comment. Just a sociological observation. Hop into the melting pot that is America. #piratecapture
@Kung-Fu Kurtis supports Demon Child Research: Not you in particular... I'm guessing your friends probably aren't at risk of making broad generalizations about Somalis based on news headlines either. (And I live in Queens, the most ethnically diverse county in the United States according to some statistic I really can't cite offhand and don't want to look up, but it sounds nice - we're all about the melting pot!) #piratecapture
I'm pretty confident they're still alive. Pirates don't murder their victims, especially if they think there's a big monetary reward due to the publicity. #piratecapture
Looks like they were captured according to this [www.timesonline.co.uk]
Looks like their family will have to pay a ransom according to the pirates. Hopefully they can come to some sort of agreement.

FYI: ""We have captured two old British [people], a man and woman in the Indian Ocean, they were on a small boat that we have hijacked," a pirate called Mohamed Shakir told The Times of London by phone from Haradheere in Somalia.
The pirate added that the two were "healthy and in our hands" but would not say where they would be taken. Ransom demands are likely to follow."
