What the hell?! They have NO SPARKLES on their XMB!! I am truly disappointed in Sony's strategy to focus on making annoying accessories instead of fixing their online community. I want to be able to join a friend who is playing Modern Warfare, not see bigger icons. I am actually concerned that both companies are too focused on following Nintendo's strategy of focusing on casual gamers. I think the lazy part of gaming is what attracts me. Not 'cuz I'm lazy, but because when I am tired from a long day at work or whatever, I can pick up a controller and play in the fetal position with minimal effort if I so desire.
To sum this up, it sounds like the x-y-z position of the sphere can be very accurate (camera based) while the tilting of the device is much less so (accelerometer based).
Be interesting to see what they come up with. And what price they stick on that controller. I'm assuming they will have bundles but I hope they don't cost over $70... Wishful thinking?
@SirFenwick: I think the PS Eye is currently about $30, so $40 on top for one set of controllers and demo disc won't be too far out I'd guess. Just hope they sell the controllers in their own bundles too.
@P3nnst8r: If you're being serious, you honestly wouldn't care about that if you were a gamer, its the gameplay that matters, not the casual/tech demo side effect stuff. Why do you think core gamers just dont give a shit about motion controls generally? :p
I fail to understand why both Sony and Microsoft would wait this late to introduce motion-sensing - and why would they do so near the 2nd half of a console's lifespan? Why not wait until the next console to blow Nintendo out of the water?
With that being said - I am still excited for Project Natal.
@CatboyMac's angry girlfriend: I'm sorry, but PSEye has been out for, how long now? A couple yearas? What exactly is the coolest thing that came out of it since then? This?
Sony is a great hardware company. They make the coolest gadgets. But when it comes to software/apps, all bets are off.
@Steve Whalen: Neither of these products are truly "hardware". They can use whatever hardware fits their mood - camera, infrared, pixie dust - but ultimately it takes outstanding software to be able to interpret the data from that hardware to determine where people are and what they are doing. Bottom line is that none of us will know how either of these work until we finally get to try it.
However, the one thing we do know is that the Wii Vitality Sensor will kick both of their asses! Oh yeah, that's what I just typed, so suck on that fanny-panties. (Yes, this last paragraph is a poor example of sarcasm and I needed to put this note in there to keep from embarrassing myself further.)
@DirtyDogg: What's with all the butthurt? Sony has a better motion controller, so what? We still haven't seen any games for it. Cool your jets, fanboy.
@BlueToast is a JERK! (I'm Sorry): Why does Natal have to have a special controller to have buttons? Why not use any arbitrary (wireless) controller with buttons? The thing is a specific controller is not tied to the system because it tracks your entire body, not just a wand.

Probably so they can figure out the problems now, tweak it, fix it, and re-release a better version with their next console.

It may be hard to handle, but Microsoft was fighting yesterday's fight.
