At first it might seem like an OK choice for people with a HD DVD collection quickly growing obsolete, but for $500 for a read-only drive or $600 for a burner, maybe a better idea would be to just get a straight-up Blu-ray drive and consider your HD DVD losses an early adopter tax. <![CDATA[Plexeraser - Erasing Your DVDs and CDs in Six Minutes]]> Plextor is planning on releasing a CD/DVD drive soon that will erase all the data on a disc, making data recovery impossible—or so they claim. We're surprised we haven't seen this type of drive sooner.

Most people have been sticking their discs in the microwave and frying it in six seconds, not six minutes. We don't know how well that method works when it comes to professional data recovery, say, by the federales. The Plexeraser seems like it's more thorough.

<![CDATA[Plextor PX-B900A Blu-ray Burner]]> Now that big names like Samsung and Sony have their Blu-ray burners out, it's time for the smaller guys like Plextor to jump in the party. Plextor's planning to ship their new Blu-ray burner in September, supporting 2x write and both 25GB and 50GB discs. It writes also standard and dual-layer DVDs along with CDs.

No price yet, but our guess is it'll be cheaper than Sony's. Finally, no more swapping burned porn DVDs in and out!

<![CDATA[Plextor PX-PA15AW Wireless Projector Adapter]]>

If you've been having wireless projector envy but can't justify or afford to upgrade your current machine because, you know, projectors are ridiculously expensive, Plextor will start shipping their PX-PA15AW Wireless Projector Adapter next month with a MSRP of $289.00, allowing real-time sharing of images and even PowerPoint with animated files. No more swapping VGA cables during presentations, or worse, having to run your presentation off of someone else's computer.

<![CDATA[Plextor Shock Proof External Hard Drives]]> Plextor has announced a new line of what they are calling "shock proof" portable hard drives. There are two models available in 80GB and 120GB capacities with prices at $169 and $260. They have a specially designed silicon jacket bumper that supposedly prevents the drive from crashing when dropped. I'm sure this silicon jacket helps it tremendously, but I highly doubt that this hard drive is completely shock proof. Still could be helpful for those klutzy people.

<![CDATA[Plextor PX-SP Drives Have Silicone Skin for Your Protection]]> Plextor helpfully tries to save you from yourself with its PX-SP portable hard drives, swathed in cushy silicone to protect them from life's little accidents. They're bus-powered via USB 2.0, and available in capacities of 80GB and 120GB.

Comparable to slip covers on a vinyl couch, the drive's protective silicone surface is protected with a little black carrying case. Hey, anything to save that precious data.

<![CDATA[Plextor Dual-Layer USB DVD Recorder]]> Plextor's PX-608U is a lightweight portable DVD recorder drive that comes with double layer DVD+/- writing, multi-format DVD-RAM capability and high-speed USB 2.0 data transfer. And if you get a writing failure because of a slow or stopped buffer (it's got 2MB), the drive will actually pause for you and start burning again as soon as the buffer is cleared. Also look for Plextor's 16x DVD+R media to go along with the just-announced drive.
