    @spyguy99: Change it to the portable chronograph. Dava Sobel wrote a fantastic book called "Longitude" on the impact of the portable chronograph. With it, navigation became far more reliable.

    @sgtteddybear: Consider that satellites provide communication, military intelligence, and weather data.


    Go back 100 years and look at the Galveston hurricane. The ability to track weather data has saved countless lives. It's used to accumulate climate data and has enhanced our ability to research the origins of the universe. And science is just one aspect.

    i'd also accept Pants. from being only worn by "barbarians and filth" to what they've evolved into; shows of power, personality, creativity and style, they were very important in human evolution

    @sjdvda: you'd have to have sex on a linux machine - windows would give you STD's, and as of lately, no one really knows what to expect out of a mac... so, you'd be having sex with a penguin. enjoy.

    Sorry, but sex is still more important. Information overload/addiction aside, without the sexual component, we'd eventually have to leave the internet and do the impossible: look for it elsewhere.
