<![CDATA[Designed by Porsche, This $250 Flashlight Has a 20 Year Battery]]> The mPower Emergency Illuminator combines a beautiful design (courtesy of the Porsche Design Studio) with new battery technology. One tube holds two CR123 batteries, while the other stores a Lithium Reserve Battery that has a minimum shelf-life of 20 years.

"The mPower Reserve Battery offers an unprecedented minimum shelf life of 20 years and has an immediate activation to full power. Through an intricate battery design, mPhase developed a way to eliminate power dissipation before initial activation."

The flashlight uses an intense, high-performance LED, and has an accessory USB connection to charge your mobile devices. It's slated to arrive in March, but we hope to get a better look at it at CES in January. [CNETand Yahoo News]

<![CDATA[Lazy Porsche Demands Elevator Service]]> At first, the organizers of the Shanghai Motor Show probably thought Porsche was joking when they suggested holding a press conference for their Panamera sedan on the 94th floor of an office building. They weren't.

An assortment of winches, dollies, and something not unlike courage helped these workers send the car on its 1394-foot journey up the Shanghai World Financial Center, leading to this set of photos that looks more like a behind-the-scenes diary for a set in Die Hard V: Die Die Die Die Die than preparations for a trade show. We're not sure how old these photos are, but they're supposedly of updated "Boxters, Caymans and even a 911". Is nothing safe? Do I have to put on my pants when I leave my house? I, for one, will not stand for this. [Street Maps! via Garage 419 via Jalopnik]

<![CDATA[Porsche P'9522 Cellphone Lacks 3G, Has GPS For Navigating Your Porsche]]>
Porsche has kicked out cellphones before: but none so capable as the upcoming P'9522. It's a butch but sweetly-minimal design flip phone, with a rotating screen, and it's just got its FCC pass so it should be on the way here soon. Among its many features, it sadly lacks 3G connectivity, but the rest—including on-board GPS—almost make up for that.

• Quad-band GSM, with GPRS and EDGE
• 2.8-inch touchscreen display, 400 x 240 pixels
• 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash
• Internal GPS
• Wi-Fi
• Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP
• Media player functions
• FM radio
• 2GB memory card included in the package
• Talk time: up to 240 minutes
• Stand by time: up to 300 hours
• 115 grams
• 112 x 49 x 12 mmOh, and it does have a fingerprint sensor aboard too, so you can protect your data in the case of casual theft. All that tech, design and the Porsche name means it carries a bigish price, though: somewhere between $750 to $800, apparently. Still, if you can afford a "real" Porsche, this is just a drop in the ocean, right? [Unwiredview via Navigadget]

<![CDATA[Sagem Porsche P'9521 Hands On (Verdict: Nifty)]]> We're jealous. The guys at the Brit division of Crave got their greasy paws on that gorgeous Sagem Porsche P'9521 cellphone we showed you the other day. Making us feel even worse is the fact that they liked it a lot, writing in their dignified-sounding British way, "It's not just a piece of rubbish with a Porsche logo on it—it is in fact a rather nifty clamshell handset."

One of the pics showed us something we didn't realize before—you know that highly visible Porsche Design logo on the lid? The numerals on its outside screen are displayed in a similar typeface. That's a cool detail. Our major complaint about the phone is its outrageous $1634 price. [Crave UK]

<![CDATA[Sagem Porsche P'9521 Cellphone Looking Good in Amsterdam Grope Session]]> The Sagem Porsche P'9521 cellphone has resurfaced after its initial intro we showed you last June, and this time there are clean and sexy pics along with some first impressions from LetsGoMobile. The phone will be available sometime before Christmas exclusively at The Phone House for a Porsche-like price of €1200 ($1685). Egads, that would be a helluva Xmas present. The Amsterdam grope revealed a "tight, stylish design based on aluminum and glass," and the phone was said to have a "beautiful design." See for yourself. Even though it's thick and heavy, its spec list is otherwise fairly standard. But weeee-doggies, check out that cellphone porn.

• Not the thinnest cellphone in the world at 91x48x18.4mm (3.6 x 1.9 x .72 in)
• Heavy at 140 grams (4.9 oz)
• 2.2-inch AM-OLED screen (good energy saver), 262,000 colors, 320x240
• 3.2 Megapixel camera, auto focus
• Fingerprint reader
• Records MPEG4 video
MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, and iMelody 1.2, Midi, Wave, AMR NB [recorder and player] and WB [player]
• Bluetooth, but no 3.5mm audio jack

<![CDATA[Porsche 911 PlayStation 3/PC Steering Wheel]]> It's not every day that an actual automaker creates a steering wheel for console gaming, so this Porsche 911 setup is especially awesome. It's a "fully licensed, to-spec reproduction," which means the wheel, the 6+1 gear sticks, and the wireless pedals are all as authentic as you're going to get in your living room. It's all wireless, has force feedback, an extra sequential gear stick, a 100-hour battery life, table clamps and works with your PS3 and PC, plus comes with a Porsche USB stick to show off to the (nerdy) ladies. Available later this year for $350. [Fanatec via Jalopnik]

<![CDATA[Porsche P'7911 Design Multihammer Power Drill - the Apostrophe is All-Important]]>

Toasters, kettles, sunglasses, coffee makers, cellphones—now add drills to the endless list of things made by Porsche that don't have five wheels and go "Vroom!". They've gotten into bed with German tool company Metabo and have come up with an (admittedly) super-sexy drill that is made of carbon fibre and aluminum. The price and a couple more pics are after the jump.

<![CDATA[The Porsche Phone: Look Ma, No Taste]]>

Before you get all over-excited and think that the German carmaker is about to team up with Vertu, à la Ferrari, think again, because the Porsche people are far too cool to do that, preferring to redeploy their technology to the kitchen toward sleek toasters and kettles.

This, my friends, is a cellphone embedded in the model of a Porsche 911 (although, perhaps in an attempt to confuse the Porsche people on the copyright front they have called it the Cayenne). And admit it, that's some wheeltrim on the phone.

There's a 2-megapixel camera buried in the windshield, the 262K color screen has an MP3 and MP4 player, it supports micro SD up to 1GB and runs on Dualband GSM. Apart from the kitsch value, there's a great reason for having this if you have kids. You'll never need to buy them a mobile, as they'll always be happy to emulate you by sticking a Matchbox car next to their ear. There's a picture of it business-side up after the jump.

It's not as cool as the packet-of-fagsphone, in my book, though.

<![CDATA[First Fearless Porsche Yacht]]> Porsche Design and Miami-based boat maker Fearless have teamed up to build a yacht that makes a 911 look like a tonka truck. And, it's a lot prettier than the other superboat we've been gawking at. The $300K fiberglass-hulled boat is 28-feet long, and powered strangely enough by a 525-hp Dodge Viper engine. (What, no 911 Turbo powerplant?)

The boat maker already has several models in the works, with the longest reaching 150 feet. While details are slim, we've included the next two boats in the gallery.

<![CDATA[Me and Bill Gates: Talking 'Bout Porsches, Breakin the Law, and Small "Gadget" Jokes]]> We just had a sit down with Bill Gates. And when I say we, I mean myself, Brian from Kotaku, Robert Scoble, Ryan from Engadget, and Chris from Joystiq. All friendly rivals. So, the meeting was like elimidate, with the 5 of us vying for his attention. Ryan took the lead and asked great technical questions about the future of Microsoft.

We started whipping voice recorders, and Scoble whipped out this monster podcast recorder the size of a small lunchbox. Scobble rattled off some stats, and I added that it was probably good for giving other podcasters inferiority complexes. Bill cracked up, and it made my day. The guy is human. Quite human, as he'd later tell the story of how he got arrested in Albuquerque in 1978.

I'd asked him about the mug shot on Wikipedia, and at first he looked a bit apprehensive, but answered. Apparently, Bill loves fast cars. In 1978, he told us, he'd gotten 3 speeding tickets on his drive to move up to Seattle. Two from the same cop. It was a Porsche 911 from that era. By the end of the story, he seemed to pleasantly distracted. Maybe he was thinking about the sensation of the road tearing underneath him at +100MPH, in a fine German automobile, instead of Vista.

People think about Larry Ellison's fighter jets, and Steve Jobs' hipness. But why does no one talk about Bill Gates' speed freak tendencies? It's a story that isn't quite new, but it definitely isn't told often enough.

From a Time piece on Bill Gates:

When Microsoft was based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in its early years, he bought a Porsche 911 and used to race it in the desert; Paul Allen had to bail him out of jail after one midnight escapade.

Later, he ripped into Scoble for not quoting numbers when Scoble gently asked about whether or not MSFT was power-saving conscious. "Before you ask the question, do the math...Be Numeric!"

Pwned by Bill! He's actually a cool guy.

<![CDATA[Siemens FA Porsche Toaster]]> Toasters may not be the most gadgety product around, but we sure do love it when companies design awesome toasters. This toaster from electronics manufacturer, Siemens, is no different. It comes in brushed aluminum. In addition to looking sweet, this Porsche Toaster also has a memory system that remembers how you like your toast. Unfortunately, it carries a very hefty price tag of $221.

<![CDATA[LaCie's 500GB Porsche Designed Hard Drives]]> Designed by Porsche Design GmbH, the LaCie hard drives come in 160GB to 500GB sizes and connect via USB 2.0 or Firewire to your Windows, Mac and Linux machines. Although not much to look at, which is surprising since it's designed by Porsche, it does ship with 1-Click backup software for PCs and Macs.

The USB versions are $10 to $30 cheaper than the Firewire versions, so keep that in mind if you need a Firewire one for your older Mac. The 160GB is $99, 250GB is $129, 320GB is $159, and the 500GB is $249. But honestly, you'd think Porsche designers could come up with something better than a brushed-metal brick.

<![CDATA[Porsche Navigon P9611 GPS: Ooo La La]]> Porsche is designing almost everything else these days, so why not add a gorgeous GPS device to the portfolio? The Porsche designers have teamed up with software makers Navigon and put together the P9611, a device that would be at home inside any exotic automobile. It has a 480x272 screen and it's running Navigon Mobile Navigator 6 software on an Intel XScale 520MHz processor.

From what we can gather from the rough translation, the device will cost around 749, or around $955 and will be shipping in October. So you'll pay dearly for such swank design. But just look at it. Heck, that logo alone is probably worth a couple of hundred bucks.

<![CDATA[Tech Intermission: Check Out the New Porsche!]]>

Yup, figured I'd give you a quick break from all the tech to take a look-see at the brand new Porsche Cayman S, shown at the Greater LA Auto Show, which is also going on this week. So basically, the biggest geeks in the world are all over on the West Coast right now. The Cayman S is a 295-horsepower, two-seat coupe that is being marketed as a "bridge between the Boxster roadster and the 911 Carrera." No price yet, but would it really matter?
