    Panasonic's math:

    $ 200 cost of 1 Blu-ray player

    $ 100 cost of typical battery

    $ 50 cost of cheap-ass low-res LCD screen

    $ 800 frickin' dollars?

    Hey, Panasonic. If I'm gonna take it up the ass, it had better at least get me dinner and flowers.

    I guess the real question is why you would need a Blu-Ray player with a 9-inch screen, given that DVDs or standard format video files are cheaper and more widely available. I suppose this might be convenient in 5 years or so when Blu-Ray is more common than DVDs, but until then...

    @Hello Mister Walrus: I have to assume the purpose is so that the shopper has a device that will handle both formats in their movie collection, but there is no question that the quality difference on a small screen like this would be negligible, at best. Clearly the price tag (and common sense elements) are putting this product in a different category from what you or I would purchase, but there are people in this universe that will buy something like this just to have something that is on the cutting edge. Admittedly, I have never met any of these people, but I hear they exist.

    @Monty: Yeah, I guess Panasonic is starting now to get early-adopter sales. They won't sell too many, but at least they will know how to make these things when the market is ripe.

    @okidokedork: Good point.

    I would think for that price you would get 2 screens. But otherwise...pretty cool. I don't think I would fork this much over for it though.

    I bet that 1080p high definition looks amazing on that tiny portable screen.

    It's nice to see, but there's no point in one. The screen's not even half of that for full Blu-Ray resolution!

    @Alvie Malhotra: There totally is. Blu-ray could replace DVD completely, and people will want portable players.

    It's not about having a 2" 1080P screen, it's about taking your movies with you. And those movies just happen to be high def.
