but i doubt this will keep selling since all of its capabilities are matched by smartphones.

Next month is the 20th Anniversary of the Gameboy and to date has sold over 100 million DS units worldwide. Saying that the iPhone is anywhere near that is like saying that Prussia poses a significant nuclear threat to American interests on Mars.

The only area that smartphones don't match the DSi is gaming. Most of its other functions are at least matched (or exceeded) by smartphones.

The DSi's only function is portable gaming. So yes, smartphones are all better than a DSi when it comes to call quality, service coverage, usability as a day planner, sending and receiving email, etc.
Similarly, lime jello tastes better than a DSi. Then again, lime jello is food and is meant to taste good.
As stated, in 4 years, the DS line has topped 100m units. Not the Gameboy line - the DS line. Nintendo does portable gaming and it does it well, proven by two decades of success in the portables market.
Apple, on the other hand, has some image problems arising from the iFart apps and single-use programs. There is poor QC in the app department.
Finally, Erik - there's a betting pool on how long until you get yourself banned again. My money is on 4/15/2009.
