the really sad thing about this is.. yes we've had sticky widgets etc for a while now, and not to mention the ability to just open a wordpad in windows and right notes in it... but the sad thing I can see is, out of everyone in my office of 50 people, I'm one of the only ones that does'nt have sticky notes taped around my monitor.. rediculous.
@anoteoftruth: Or is the really sad thing that we've had spellcheck on computers for a while now, but the average person still doesn't know how to write using correct spelling...ridiculous.
@Lite: killed Dumbledore: yea that would be good for a cheat sheet for something like final cut or pro tools, i can never remember all the damn quick keys
While I think her pitch is silly, I can't stand sticky note software. Why? Because I use my screen. I use ALL of my screen. I use so much screen real-estate in my work that I use two monitors. I have 15 separate programs open, and often multiple instances of each program.
Right now I have 12 putty sessions open, 9 tabs in firefox, 7 tabs in IE, 4 directories, Xen Center, VMWare Infrastructure Client, 3 IM windows, Skype, Pandora, an image viewer, 2 dos boxes, outlook, an SVN repository, and notepad++ with 7 documents open.
Now, switching between all of these to do work is bad enough without trying to fit some virtual sticky notes on my screens.
So, they ride the edges of my secondary monitor.
I do not put sticky notes on my laptop. Plus, she hasn't solved the problem of sticky notes only sticking to something once.

@G-Ram: I own two of them actually. The dashboard doesn't let me reference something, AND type at the same time when using applications or working on things that require the full screen to do work.
@Lite: killed Dumbledore:
I can't stand sticky note software either. Partly because the software either puts little notes all over your desktop workspace, or if they're not on top you don't see the notes-thus completely ruining the whole point of having sticky notes meant to be visible reminders.
And I really hate the way most of those programs work anyway...if someone came up with a truly great equivalent for the desktop then sure I'd run the software. Until then though I don't think any software really replaces sticky notes yet.
That said she's nuts if she thinks anybody will pay $9.50 for that. Maybe $1.
@ripfire: I'm already using Win7. I've been using it since the RC candidate was released so that I could get away from fucking Vista.
I certainly appreciate the way it handles multiples of applications on the task bar. That's for damn sure. Too bad the RC has a habit of corrupting icons on the task bar. I really hope they fixed that in the RTM.
@G-Ram: Eh, I've used a Mac for quie a while. I never really got into Dashboard too much. It may just be a personal thing, but I could never get in the habit of remembering that the dashboard was up there. Though, this is partly because I tend to go towards other note-taking applications (Stickies, or TextEdit for example).
I'm not exactly the most disciplined guy in the world, but it does stand to reason Dashboard wouldn't be the best fit for everybody.
I actually watched something the Gawker network talked about for once.
Uh, doesn't anybody actually really use sticky notes anymore?
I don't understand the real use of them, especially if you have them plastered to your laptop or desktop monitor. I mean, we do have programs that deal with all the note taking. Infact, I don't even have a pen or pencil in my cubicle.
I think the only time I've used them is to remember to buy something on my next grocery store trip, and I plaster those to the fridge.

@Shamoononon, Vampire Grater: I still use pen and paper, esp sticky notes. I mean, what else do you use to take down notes in meetings? Unless the company provides me a tablet I can take anywhere, I'll have to resort to pen/paper.
@ripfire: Personally I prefer tree-copy myself. I make sure to recycle and use as much recycled paper as I can, but I still prefer tree-ware to some virtual copy on my desktop when I need to review something.
@ripfire: "what else do you use to take down notes in meetings?"
Take notes in a meeting? HA HA, don't make me laugh...
Alright, on the rare occasion I have to go to a meeting that isn't all just power point slides, I'll stop and grab a notebook and pen from the supply cabinet.
Although her invention is pretty shitty and there have been electronic alternatives for many years, I can certainly believe there are many people who prefer paper post-it notes over electronic ones just because. Also, in an office environment when you are leaving someone a note, this may be a good idea especially if you don't want your coworkers getting on your computer.
@PMD: Although I still use post-its myself, I treat them like the way they are meant to be: temporary. I bring a pad with me to take notes, but only to have it transcribed my comp when I get back to my desk.
