I don't like it.

It's so bad that I've already made a greasemonkey script to revert it so that it's readable, and to add additional tweaks to highlight friends, indent nested comments, etc.
The person responsible for this particular redesign should be sacked. (As should the person responsible for sacking the designer.)
The mobile site still sucks ass.
If I wanted to view the mobile site on an iPhone or iPod Touch, I would go to m.gizmodo.com. Quit redirecting me, it's insulting. How about giving mobile users the opportunity to make the redirect cookie permanent, as opposed to just a session cookie? Or, make it permanent by default, and navigating to m.gizmodo.com resets the cookie to the mobile site.
It really shouldn't be that hard to add a section on user profiles to customize the site's appearance. eg. Default to classic view, thread order, font size, excluding specific tags, or even raising other tags to the top. It would make this crappy redesign a non-issue for every single one of your readers.
And, here's how the mobile site could look on the iPhone.

Yeah, I'm whining. But you asked, so here it is: I don't like the text pushing out the width of the minimum browsing width.
FYI... it's NOT 800px... because of the left editorial/ad bar, the minimum browser res for IE 7 is 1024... if it WAS 800, I'd be fine. I get that the article CONTENT might span 800px, but factor in the right bar, and there's horizontal scrolling to be done with every page refresh/load.

If I could change the user agent setting on the Touch to keep from getting redirected, I would, but it's annoying that I am not given an option to use my "real internet" device on a real website. There is an option at the top of the page to view the regular version, but it sends me back to "m." hell when I click-through on an article, or go past the first page.
I haven't checked today since the above-mentioned changes were implemented, but I will say at this point that it will have to be a significant change to win me back.

It's really atrocious.
It's standalone ugly from a design perspective.
It also doesn't match anything else going on on the page.
It's just too big, as in awkward to read because my eyes don't look at anything else that size.
The way it spreads out in a way nothing else done is just....pointless.
It really is reminiscent of reading a book for children, so it just doesn't "feel" as professional.
And it just didn't need to be changed.
Honestly, worse than the hearts. And that's pretty bad. I'm pretty sure I haven't added any friends since the hearts came around.
The rest of the changes are neither here nor there as far as I'm concerned. (Oh except that I miss the page telling me Hello and instead of just saying Profile, but that's pretty minor. And no page motto anymore? Just The Gadget Blog? )
I try to avoid being unconstructively negative, but seriously, the size change is just plain ol' stupid.

But, maybe the additional scrolling is to make us feel better for having fewer comments per page instead?
I wish I we could customize how many comments we'd see per page. Then there's that issue where if you go to page 2+ and post, it kicks you back to page 1 when you're done. So you have go back to the page, reselect it, and go on.

...meh, when I have time..
11/14/08
Now, if someone wants to jump on cURL'ing enough to be able to post comments... I plan on it, just too lazy to do it at this point.

Just another example of how enraged I am by this change.

Plus, it just makes it that much for dangerous when I'm trying to sneak a peek at work, ha.

RE: Gawker: the new format is frustrating... i don't mind being able to use my scroll wheel to navigate long articles... but for some reason XP doesn't like my sidescroller.. this leads to a lot of zoom in/out to read text.... and sucks..
or maybe your just telling me i need to buy a widescreen... dammit..

I'm definitely not feeling the bigger font. It makes me think of that telephone they have for really old people where the numbers are insanely huge.
Why can't the Gawker techs just leave shit alone for once?
*sigh*

Ain't that the truth.

And seriously, if we live in a world where affordable mobile devices are more capable than ever before of displaying the actual web, with web-standards-compliant-mobile-browsers, and 3G penetration is becoming nearly ubiquitous (on most networks)... why is Gawker just now creating a mobile version? Shouldn't we be canning the utterly gimped Mobile Web? I don't get it at all.
