Problem: Programs freezing and appearance of the spinning beach ball.
Solution: Try force quitting the frozen program or alternatively use a larger and heavier spherical object to intimidate the spining beach ball into hiding.
@Steven Lichtenthal: I live in pitsburgh and trust me we dont go for the pirates we go for the great food there plus the park is beautiful and the skyline is great too. if the pirates actually do something its a bonus
"I believe my 17" G4 powerbook is still more advanced than any PC out there today."
And I believe that her new HP, should it actually manage not to self-destruct (ask me how many flaky HP laptops I've seen, just ask...) can magically become more advanced than the PowerBook with a nice, free operating system.
And to prove which is really ze zuperior laptop, I'm going to give Lauren a $5000 laptop, and she can decide which is superior without putting a price tag on it.
I mean seriously? This is so stupid. The whole point is that macs are over priced, which they are, you get more for your money when you're not paying extra for the Apple logo. The other point Apple has nothing to offer lower end consumer. How does comparing a $699 laptop to a much higher end model refute that at all?
@Zombie_Belvedere: Hey do you have a nice watch? Are your appliances stainless steel? What kind of T.V. do you have? You may not(I dont lol), but there really is nothing different from buying something like that to buying a mac, and quite frankly there really isnt anything wrong with it is there? Unless of course people are spending irresponsibly, which does happen.
And funnily enough Dell's adamo is more expensive than MB's, the Air(which Im not big on but more so than the adamo with its back-end lol), and almost as much as the bottom end MBP's. Granted though they do offer cheap laptops as well.
This isn't just apple, but look at other computer makers like alienware (well part of Dell lol) if you want to spend a pretty penny.
@snoop_dizzle: The point is trying to defend Apple's ridiculously high prices in this manner is idiotic. Apple simply doesn't have anything to offer at the low end (even though spec wise they're inferior to many lower end models). There's no getting away from it, when you buy a mac, you pay a lot extra for a stupid logo and some white paint.
And no, I don't have a nice watch, why would I, when you're surrounded by cellphones, computers, and actual clocks, buying an expensive watch is just vanity. My appliances aren't stainless steel, they're the most functional and affordable I could find, same goes for my TV. Only fanboys and brand whores buy something for a brand name, or how shiny it looks, or how trendy it is. Those are the people who waste money on macs. So your argument really reinforces the point of this otherwise lame Microsoft ad.
I have this 2k HP/Compaq 6910 Motorola laptop/harbinger of death (2k? yes, that is what they charge my department at Motorola), and I'm not sure whether or not I'd prefer that powerbook.
Oh and just ignore that MBP abbreviation in my screen name.
Can we have a drawing for who receives Mitch's powerbook?
@LindsayJoy's MBP is into S+M: We probably CAN have a drawing, but since it's Mitch's rules, my guess is only cute-as-a-button redheads who have a > 1:1000 chance of putting out in exchange for used hardware will be eligible to enter.
I like it, I want to see her come back with a rebuttal advertisement saying "holy shit...this 4 year old mac is better than any PC I have ever used...fuck Windows"
@gerrylum: I think the point Mitch is trying to make, is that he believes if Lauren uses a Mac, it will open her eyes to the fact that the higher price is worth it.
As it stands now, she seems to be discounting the Mac simply because of the price without stopping to consider value.
*my personal views on Mac v. PC value are not reflected in the above assesment of Mitch's motives
that's weird, because i could swear we were discussing the article, and that pevans34's comment was a lame attempt to make a parallel.
what gerry said was "It kind of defeats the purpose of the comparison if all of a sudden you can say price is no object. " - implying that that was what was happening here. that's not what was happening here.
"This is lovely for someone who earns her money as an office manager. Oh, and I almost forgot, the Associated Press reports that she's also an actress.
I think that Lauren has a fine career ahead of her. Anyone who can spontaneously come up with a line such as, "I'm just not cool enough to be a Mac person," when she thinks that she's only participating in a market research movie, clearly has a future in many different genres."
@FredicvsMaximvs salutes Spacebat: Well gee whiz. No matter. Some "no-name" actors and actresses at least make enough to buy a premium laptop if they wish, even if "Lauren" isn't.
But really, it was sort of a joke. Her name is probably not even Rachel.
@ps61318: I'm actually fully against editing of comments. Commenters get annoyed, on occasion, when Giz makes a faux pas in their articles. Imagine people responding with massive vitriol to a troll, only to have the troll alter the comment, only to make the comments below look silly.
@Kaiser-Machead: I too think editing is a bad idea, but not because of potential de-trolling which - you have to admit - is always fun to watch when 20 people whine about a spelling error since corrected.
However, I'm all for preview. Not having preview throws the world off kilter and makes baby otter boxes cry.
Back to Lauren, I agree with your take on her the other day. She is a cutie. I also think she's a good actress. Perhaps she'll wind up in the next installment of Blair Witch. There's something about her that makes me think if she were in a movie, she'd establish instant likeability, and then something bad would happen to her. I could see her cast in "Cloverfield: LA" but among the first to be eaten.
She's perky but perishable, this year's Dell Guy.
I actually like the commercial. I know the 17" notebook she chose has the screen resolution of a light brite and weighs more than Nancy Pelosi, but she's so happy about making a purchase, or rather being filmed making a purchase, I'm rooting for her until the day she gets caught doing blow on the Macbook Air she buys with the royalties she earns from the ad.
@Kaiser-Machead: i agree. i think they should allow adding to your comment though. that way none of the other comments would look silly, but you could tack corrections right into the post instead of having multiple comments from the same person just to fix a spelling error.
@stre: There has never been a spelling error that anyone has ever fixed - in the history of Gizmodo - in the history of the internet - that everyone readng the comment didn't already figure out sans correction.

Dear Mitch,
I appreciate your enthusiasm, but you do realize that this is an ad, right? By the way, I already have a Macbook Pro.
Sincerely,
