I hate commenters that mention that this is a repeat item, so I would never say that. Instead, I will just add a link to this article from a fantastic gadget site that may or may not have some amusing comments about it.
@Monty: It just occurred to me that the joke is on me since this might be a follow-up letting us know that this is used for spying on employees. I am still confused how it will work without buying a cell phone plan and registering your power strip with a carrier -- but, I will be quiet because I clearly am not paying enough attention.
i like that at least the outlets look like they're set to fit several different plug types. that was thoughtful. this way i can conduct my espionage around the world while still protecting innocent gadgets from the scourge of surge.
We will forgive you, John, for not realizing that this is an accessory to the Brando air conditioning tie since, once you realize this, it all makes perfect sense, no?
Oh, Brando - you are just so adorably clueless that we cannot help but love you.
i, too, have something else that extends - my courtesy to my guests, of course, is extended constantly; especially when entertaining female guests, my courtesy is extended to the utmost.
alright, i'll concede the point. and i've noticed the boards have been cleaner in the last few days, (thanks!) and you wont hear me complain about overzealous hammering when i just got done bitching about how lax things had become around here.
$200 dollars?! I built the same exact thing in my house with some X10 components and the Thinkgeek Kill-a-Watt. No chip bowl though, a serious flaw now that I think about it.
@Moldy Cheese: A major flaw when you consider that power savings without fondue is like an iPhone without fart apps. Your product may be functional, but ultimately you are missing the necessary part of the social experience.
I don't get it. Why would you pay $200 for a over glorified power strip.. How long do you think it would take to save you $200 in consumption to pay for itself? Not counting the 3 times a day I have to plug my iPhone in to keep it going with all the other apps I've got running.
@LuckyLakey: Yeah, it's pretty pointless if all you're going to plug into it are small appliances (the kinds that get plugged into power strips). I could imagine this being useful if you could use it on a larger scale, like to measure the power consumption of your entire house. Then, maybe your change in consumption would justify the purchase.
I don't understand why it needs to be iPhone-controlled. Is there an alternative way to control it? If not, wouldn't this limit the customer base to iPhone owners?
First they controlled where you went and how you got there, then where you ate, then what you did with your free time, not to mention all your methods of communication and entertainment -- and now the iPhone controls the power, too? Damn it, Steve Jobs has officially taken over the universe.
