Pretec i-Disk RFID: Where Do You Hide Yours?

Pretec's new i-Disk flash drive is 25 per cent smaller than a quarter, and can store up to 1GB of data. A combination of USB flashdisk and RFID technology in a waterproof case, the i-Disk is made using a semiconductor MCP process, and measures 45.7 x 12.2 x 2.2mm. It will primarily be marketed for use in hospitals, airports and warehouses and production is expected to start in the next few months. Honestly, I don't see much use to a whole gigabyte in a RFID tag other than hiding secret space station plans inside short legged droids. If you have any ideas, please write them after the jump. Pretec's 8GB SD 2.0 Memory Card

Pretec will release an 8GB SD 2.0 (SDHC) memory card before the end of the year that will have access speeds of up to 20MB per second. Unlike SD cards using the old SD 1.0/1.1, cards following the SD 2.0 standard won't have a 4GB size limit. Chalk this up to a new method of allocating space on the drive: whereas the 1.0/1.1 standard used something called byte addressing, the new standard allocates space using sector addressing. Perhaps not the most compelling information, but it's not every day that a Dell laptop explodes. More »

Bulletproof USB Flash Drive, True Security

Pretec announced its bulletproof USB flash drive last week at Computex in Taipei. In addition to being bulletproof this flash drive is also waterproof and fireproof. So essentially there is no way to destroy the data, unless of course, someone plugs in the drive and simply deletes the files. The Pretec i-Disk Bulletproof is made of double-layered sealed protective metal. The drive also includes all of the standard features of flash drives such as password protection and encryption. This drive will be available in capacities from 32MB up to 2GB. More »

Pretec announced the 133x, a 4GB Compact Flash (CF) card the company claims can read data at 20MBps and write at 14MBps.
