If you're sure you need to stick with Verizon, this probably looks enticing, but we'd definitely recommend waiting. The Storm 2 will probably cost in the $150-250 range to compete with the iPhone, Pre, and various Android offerings, and for all we know, it might be great. Even the BlackBerry Tour might be a better option that the original Storm, which isn't the worst phone ever but hasn't exactly been a fan favorite either. [Verizon]

<![CDATA[Amazon's Kindle 2 Gets $60 Price Drop, Now at $299]]> Amazon lopped $60 off the price of the Kindle 2, bringing it to $299. Is under $300 the sweet spot, or is that still too much to drag you over from the dead-tree alternative? [Amazon via Engadget; Image]

<![CDATA[AT&T Considering a $10 Cut On Entry Level iPhone Plan]]> According to Cote Collaborative, AT&T will reduce the price of the entry level iPhone monthly plan from $69 to $59 when a new model is introduced in June.

The move would be designed to head off competition like the Palm Pre, but whether this information is based on any insider information or just market analysis is unclear. Either way, we shall have to wait and see if it comes to fruition. [The Street via MobileCrunch]

<![CDATA[Sony Not Planning PS3 Price Cut for Leipzig, Spokesperson Says]]> Those hoping for a PS3 price cut in the near future better not hold their breaths. A Sony spokesperson confirmed on Friday that the company had no plans right now to give you another deal on the machine, and anyone hoping for that kind of news at Leipzig will be sorely disappointed. Given that they slashed the price less than a year ago, this shouldn't be too surprising. Though PS3 sales are still trailing behind the Wii, it's relatively recent discount put it neck to neck for second place with the cheaper Xbox 360. [Reuters]

<![CDATA[Rumor Says Xbox 360 Getting Another Price Cut in September]]> The Xbox 360 "price cut" in July wasn't so much a price cut as it was a swapping of parts, but Ars says there's an actual price cut coming in September. According to their source—who also told them about the impending 60GB switch-out prior to E3—the Arcade is dropping to $199, the 60GB Pro to $299, and the 120GB Elite to $399. So say we all. <![CDATA[Nokia Slashes Cellphone Prices as Much as 10%]]> Trying to put pressure on their competition, or feeling the pressure from increasing Samsung and LG market share, Nokia has reduced many handset prices by 10%—mostly music and media phones—but also making discounts across the whole portfolio. Analyst and Sean Connery-fan David Hallden calls the move a Crazy Ivan:

This is basically a way to run away from competition. You're putting a lot of pressure on your less competitive peers. I think they're doing a Crazy Ivan.

And we think you are watching too many submarine movies lately, David, but you may be right. In any case, cheaper phones are good for everyone. [Reuters]

<![CDATA[MacBook Air With Solid State Drive Gets $500 Price Cut]]> Apple just ripped $500 off the price tag of their Solid State Drive-based MacBook Airs, which are now $2598, down from $3098. AppleInsider says the cuts came from two components, the 1.8GHz Core 2 Duo, which got a $100 cut, and the 64GB SSD, which got a $400 cut. The sub-$3000 bill should be slightly more appetizing to fans of light laptops. And fans of money. [Apple Store via Apple Insider]

<![CDATA[Deep Euro XBox 360 Price Cuts Coming?]]> The internet is aflame today with rumors that all versions of the 360 will get a €50 ($76) price cut in Europe by March 14th—which would make the Arcade system cheaper than the Wii in the UK. With any luck this could be a sign of things to come in the US. [GamesIndustry.biz via Kotaku]

<![CDATA[Netflix Confirms $15.99 Price Was Test For Select Few]]> Following up on our story from last week about further Netflix price cuts, again reducing rates for its 3-disc at-a-time plan to $15.99, we've gotten a confirmation from Netflix Director of Corporate Communications Steve Swasey (pictured in the graphic here) about the nature of that $1-lower price. He says it's part of a "price test":

"You're part of a randomly selected group for a price test. We run price tests all the time. Since it's just a test, we don't disclose how many members are in the test, what the test results are or what the outcome may be."
Let's hope I pass the test so everyone else might benefit from this largess. Until then, that $16.99 price everyone else is getting is not such a bad deal for three discs at a time, anyway.]]>

<![CDATA[Xbox 360 Price Cuts: $50 off Premium, $20 off Core, $30 off Elite]]> New information on the Xbox 360 price drop detailed in the Toys 'R Us and Wal-Mart ads this weekend. Circuit City is bringing out a full two-page layout with price cuts of $50 for the Premium, $30 for the Elite, and $20 for the Core. Yes, this means all those rumors of the Core getting canned are probably false. So you're looking at a final price lineup of $279, $349 and $449 if you pick up an Xbox 360 starting August 12. <![CDATA[Unconfirmed: Retailer Says Xbox 360 Getting Price Cut August 8]]> This is all unconfirmed for now, but a retailer is saying the Xbox 360 will get a $50 price cut come August 8. We haven't seen any pricing rumors since E3, where everyone thought the 360 was going to lower its price to match the PS3's "price cut," but that didn't happen. Peter Moore told us that they knew the PS3 was going to have a "price drop" for months now, which was obvious to them by looking at manufacturers and the supply chain. However, the "price drop" wasn't enough to jump-start the 360 camp into lowering theirs as well. Why now?

Here are some of the reasons we can think of.

• It's almost two years since the launch, which is about the time when most consoles make their first price drop.
• The 360 is selling fairly poorly, down 61% comparing the fourth fiscal quarter of 2006 to the fourth fiscal quarter of 2007 (Q4 fiscal is summertime for Microsoft).
• They want to differentiate themselves even more, pricewise, to the PS3. And lower themselves into the Wii-pricetag space. A $249 price for the Core would be doing just that.
• They can. Prices for parts have gone down since launch, so they're able to make the same consoles much more cheaply.

<![CDATA[Rumor: 360 Core $200]]>
Mark this as extremely questionable, but Bloggingstocks.com says it's legit. The word on the street is that Microsoft is dropping the Xbox 360 core system to $200. That's right, a 360 for $50 less than a Wii.

If this turns out to be true, it'd be a great way to pick a "baby elite" (Core 360+120GB Drive) for only $380. While not much else is known right now, we'll be sure to let you guys know the second we hear anything else.

<![CDATA[Rumor Smash: No PS3 Price Cut in Sight]]> ps320.jpgI guess our speculated PS3 price cut was a bust after all. Sony released a statement saying:
PS3 prices and shipment plans for the future should be determined by market trends and competition. Sony currently doesn't have any specific plan to cut the PlayStation 3's price.
*Sigh* I really wanted to pick up a PS3 for the new Ratchet & Clank game, but $600 is too damn much right now.

So Sony ISN'T Considering Price Cuts [Kotaku]

<![CDATA[PS2 Price Cut on the Way]]> Industry analyst Colin Sebastian said that Sony is expected to cut the price of the PS2 from $149 to $129 by the end of the month. The purpose of the price cut is to reignite the console sales to appeal to the more value-oriented customers. Sebastian also said that Microsoft may be cutting the price of the Xbox soon, as it dwindles out of the console race.
