The online retailer is also sweetening the deal with a $25 Amazon gift card, which will be good until October 3. Let the holiday insanity begin. [Kotaku]

<![CDATA[Nintendo Conference Call Allegedly Confirms Sept. 27 Wii Price Cut]]> If unofficial company confirmations are your thing, and you've been following Nintendo's all but certain Wii price cut, feast on this: One Nintendo fan site eavesdropping on a retailer call claims the company confirmed a $50 cut for Sept. 27.

If that sounds a bit confusing and unconfirmed by anyone but that particular web site, that's because it is. Put simply, the Big N hasn't said a peep about any of this to anyone save those at this alleged secret tree house meeting, whose attendance list included what we presume to be folks like Target, Toys R Us and other retailers who've leaked circulars purportedly advertising a $200 Wii over the past week.

In the end I'm inclined to agree with Kotaku on this one: Wait for the Tokyo Games Show, where all will be revealed and confirmed. Then, after such time has past, we can all get back to predicting when the next price cut will hit. [Nintendojo via GoNintendo via Kotaku]

<![CDATA[Xbox 360 Price Cuts Officially Arrive Sept. 5, Now Cheaper Than a Wii]]> The across-the-board Xbox 360 price cuts rumored since last month just got official from Microsoft. The standard and Elite get a solid $50 drop, while the Arcade plummets a whole $80, making the 360 officially cheaper than a Wii. The new pricing scheme is:

Xbox 360 Arcade - $199
• Xbox 360 - $299
• Xbox 360 Elite - $399

Still, Elite all the way, baby. [Kotaku]

<![CDATA[RadioShack Flyer Indicates Xbox 360 Price Cuts on Elite, Arcade Systems]]> The Xbox 360 price cut rumors we've been hearing for September look to be gathering even more steam, as this RadioShack ad shows drops to $399 for the Elite system and $199 for the Arcade. That's down $50 on the Elite and $80 on Arcade, making your choices a nice smooth progression of Benjamins—$199/$299/$399. The drops are rumored to hit early next month. UPDATE: We've also just heard from the folks at setteb.it, who have news of an official 60GB upgrade to the 20 GB Xbox 360 system at the same price, €270 in Italy. [Joystiq]

<![CDATA[Update: Screen Grab Allegedly Confirms $199 Xbox 360 Price Cut Rumor]]> The $199 Xbox 360 price cut rumor we reported on yesterday got a little more real today after a screenshot surfaced showing the updated SKU for the Arcade model. VGChartz got the scoop, and noticed that the September 7 release date for the updated SKU coincides with some other big Xbox 360 events: the launches of Square Enix's Infinite Undiscovery and Rock Band 2. Both titles are Xbox 360 exclusives around the price drop time frame (although as Kotaku notes, Rock Band 2 comes out for other systems in November). [VGChartz via Kotaku]

<![CDATA[Xbox 360 Price Cuts Arrive in Australia, US Probably Following Soon]]> Normally we'd skip over Australia-only news, but the official Xbox 360 price cuts there most likely means those rumors of a drop in the US are pretty much locked in for sure (even if the European price reduction a few months ago didn't cross over). Kotaku says all three models got slashed, "with the Arcade down $50 to AUD$349, the Pro down a whopping $180 to AUD$499 and the Elite down $80 to AUD$649." With the new sticker of $349, the Xbox 360 Arcade is actually cheaper than the Wii, which is $400. Toilet flushing and the seasons aren't the only things backwards down there now. <![CDATA[Zune 8GB Gets $20 Price Cut, Now $179.99 at Major Retailers]]> The 8GB Zune seems to have received a no-fuss $20 price cut. The reduction has not taken effect across the board, but we've managed to track the $179.99 8GB Zune to Amazon, Best Buy, Circuit City and Buy.com, all without any official word. Buy.com are only currently offering the black 8GB Zune at the knocked down price point, but we expect their systems may not have been updated just yet. Either way, you can now get your mitts on an 8GB Zune for $179.99 from a string of the major retailers, which means the 4GB player costs $30 less for half the capacity. More price cutting on the horizon? It would make sense. [Bostonpocketpc]

<![CDATA[Sony's Blue Laser Diodes Down to $8 - PS3 and BD Player Price Cuts Soon?]]> Good news for Blu-ray fans. Sony's just announced that they're ramping up blue laser diode production yet again, which will lower the price to just around $8 each by June. What will this mean to you? Well, seeing as the diodes were the reason for the PS3 shortages this fall (and contributed to both the PlayStation's and Blu-ray players' high prices), this huge windfall of diodes could mean lowered prices for all Blu-ray related items.

Some analyst from Wedbush Morgan Securities agrees, saying "Sony is definitely in a position to cut price," and that prices will be lowered once costs hit around $499. So those of you who are on the fence about dumping $599 may want to wait it out just a little longer.

Also, since HD DVD also uses blue laser diodes (a different type, and they just don't call theirs blue), this news could also mean they will ramp up production of theirs as well.
