Price Drop
”Xbox 360 Pro Hits $299 at Target
The Xbox 360 price drop has pretty much gone official, with Target offering an in-store price of $299.99. The only thing weird about this is that it's not the rumored 60GB version that we thought was coming, so it's possible that Target is just clearing out old inventory for the new SKU? We won't know anything for certain until someone from Microsoft gets up on stage and says it. Or until they put out a press release. [Target]
Xbox 360 Price Cuts Arrive in Australia, US Probably Following Soon
Normally we'd skip over Australia-only news, but the official Xbox 360 price cuts there most likely means those rumors of a drop in the US are pretty much locked in for sure (even if the European price reduction a few months ago didn't cross over). Kotaku says all three models got slashed, "with the Arcade down $50 to AUD$349, the Pro down a whopping $180 to AUD$499 and the Elite down $80 to AUD$649." With the new sticker of $349, the Xbox 360 Arcade is actually cheaper than the Wii, which is $400. Toilet flushing and the seasons aren't the only things backwards down there now. Xbox 360 Price Cut Leaked By K-Mart Weekly Circular
A forum user High-Def Digest just posted a scan from next week's K-Mart weekly circular ad showing a price drop of $50 on the Xbox 360 Premium. The $299 price still includes a 20GB hard drive, and the timing of this supposed price drop matches up with whatever announcements Microsoft is going to have at E3—some of which which are rumored to either be a price drop or a newer version with slightly bigger storage. Kotaku points out that there's no price drop for either of the other two models, but with the Arcade sitting at $279, it seems more than likely that Microsoft will lower that as well. Microsoft has made last week's Euro XBox price cut rumors official with an 80 euro ($122) price drop across all SKUs making the Arcade version 200 euros ($307) and the high-end Elite to 370 euros ($568) while price drops in the UK fell between 20-50 pounds ($40-$100). [Reuters]

T-Mobile Mobile Internet Price Drops Leaked
One of the main draws of getting T-Mobile internet, even though it's EDGE compared with the other three provider's 3G, was its low price. Now that price is getting even lower, with the Total Internet plan going down to $19 from $29, which is the plan you use with your smartphones like the T-Mobile Wing and Dash. BlackBerry plans also stay put at $19. The bad news is, however, that the Total Internet Package—the one that comes with T-Mobile Wi-Fi Access—will be going up to $39 for everyone. Changes should be coming September 16, which will be just in time for the iPhone unlocks to finalize and get the kinks worked out. [Boy Genus via Slashgear]

Steve Jobs and Apple announced the $100 Store Credit "rebate" for all iPhone owners that were eager enough to buy an iPhone when it first came out. The early adopters had enough faith in the company to buy early, even though it cost a good $500/$600. It's a great gesture, in theory, but let's analyze why they did this.

Xbox 360 Price Drop Brings Sales Way Up On Amazon
People like cheap things. Just like the PlayStation 3 price drop caused its sales to tent, the Xbox 360's slash made the Xbox 360 Premium rocket to #11 in sales in video games. The other two, Elite and Core, also went up as well. Forza 2, the 360's racing game, also benefitted from the price drop, launching all the way to #1 from #94. [Amazon]
Dealzmodo: Apple iPods Get Small $20 Price Drop
Similar to the way Zunes were discounted, Amazon is offering up $20 discounts on the 30GB iPod and $28 discounts on the 80GB iPod. We doubt it's related to the new iPods that may be coming, but it's a good deal if you've been waiting for some reason to jump into the iPod pool. [Amazon via Engadget]
Unconfirmed: Retailer Says Xbox 360 Getting Price Cut August 8
This is all unconfirmed for now, but a retailer is saying the Xbox 360 will get a $50 price cut come August 8. We haven't seen any pricing rumors since E3, where everyone thought the 360 was going to lower its price to match the PS3's "price cut," but that didn't happen. Peter Moore told us that they knew the PS3 was going to have a "price drop" for months now, which was obvious to them by looking at manufacturers and the supply chain. However, the "price drop" wasn't enough to jump-start the 360 camp into lowering theirs as well. Why now?
